✨ A special order for a special journey to the UK 🇲🇾✈️🇬🇧

Always happy when a regular customer comes back with another special request. 🥰❤️

This time, she asked me to make a bag for her granddaughter, using a lovely combination of Malaysian batik and navy faux leather. 💙 The bag comes with short handles for carrying by hand or over the arm, together with a long adjustable strap for shoulder or crossbody carrying.

And that wasn’t all! 😬

I also made 13 Batik Expandable Storage Pouches in different colours and prints for her to choose from. 🌺✨ From the 13, she picked 11 pieces as gifts for her granddaughter’s friends in the UK. 🎁

I really enjoyed preparing all the different batik designs. Each one has its own colours and character, so even though they are the same design, every piece feels a little different and special. ❤️

Knowing that these handmade pieces will be travelling all the way from Malaysia to the UK makes this order feel extra special too. 🇲🇾✈️🇬🇧

Sometimes the first result is only the beginning. 🌿✨

The first photo was the original outcome of this piece, made at the end of June using a combination of ecoprint + natural dye.

For the botanical prints, I used:
🌿 Daun ubi Ajinomoto
🌿 Daun lemuni hitam
🌿 Daun insulin, also known as Mexican sunflower

For the background colour, I experimented with 2 natural dyes:
🔴Secang (sappanwood)
🟡Kulit delima (pomegranate peel).

The result had beautiful soft, earthy tones… but somehow, I wasn’t completely satisfied with it. 😅 I kept looking at the T-shirt and felt that it needed something more.

So I left it for a while.

Then last night, I decided to experiment again — this time using a bleaching technique to add another botanical layer to the existing design.

No proper formula. No guarantee how it would turn out. Just a lot of trial & error and curiosity. 😄

And the second photo is today’s outcome. 🤍🌿

The lighter botanical silhouettes gave the piece a completely different character, while parts of the original ecoprint and natural-dyed colours are still there underneath.

What started as an outcome I wasn’t quite satisfied with became another opportunity to experiment and learn.

Sometimes, you just have to keep experimenting. 🌿🧵
