A multidisciplinary workshop, design practice based in Kuala Lumpur. We are a 'designer-drafter' office, where each designer is entasked with the full scope of the design process. We believe a good designer is one who designs a context and not just within it. A great design is a unity of parts which resonate with each other though each has its own genesis.

Our approach to KLCG at Medan Pasar was intentionally restrained, allowing the heritage of the space to take the lead. Interventions were kept minimal, working in quiet dialogue with the existing fabric.
A simple material palette pairs stainless steel and mirror with stone and timber, gently highlighting the original architecture while introducing a subtle contemporary layer.

Drawing from the past, subtle design gestures were introduced to echo the space’s former life as a kopitiam. Angled mirrors, positioned above the counter, offer passersby a clearer view of the products while adding a sense of depth and movement. This gesture was inspired by an antique mirror left behind by the previous tenant, which has been thoughtfully retained and reinterpreted as a focal wall feature within the main dining space.

Introducing KLCG, a homegrown bakery, into a newly rehabilitated shophouse in Medan Pasar, Kuala Lumpur’s oldest market square. This marks a meaningful homecoming for the brand, returning to the neighbourhood where it first began.
Our approach was grounded in restraint and careful consideration, with each intervention designed to work in tandem with the existing architecture and finishes. By allowing the inherent character of the space to lead, the design unfolds in a quiet and deliberate manner. The result is a spatial experience that feels layered and distinct, rooted in its context yet expressed through a contemporary lens.

Bricks & Butter at The Linc KL is conceived as a refined yet grounded Anglo-Indian patisserie, where a contrast between tactile materials and polished luxurious accents shapes a space that feels both artisanal and elevated.

Terracotta and clay surfaces are paired with brass accents and soft lighting, while bespoke handmade glazed tiles, inspired by the brand’s name, express a balance between raw texture and smooth richness across key elements.

A defining feature of the space is the custom green ceramic tile, developed in collaboration with a local artisan as a direct expression of the Bricks & Butter identity. The form of the tile is conceived as an abstract interpretation of the brand, subtly referencing two stacked “B” forms. Each tile is individually crafted and glazed, allowing for slight variations in tone, depth, and sheen that celebrate its handmade quality.

This intentional variation gives the surface a sense of movement and richness, allowing the bespoke nature of the tiles to truly stand out while reinforcing the narrative of craft, locality, and layered materiality.

Creating unique dining experiences within a large footprint allows for a more dynamic spatial planning that encourages repeat visits. Through a considered play on form and texture, the design introduces warmth and a sense of rhythm, most prominently expressed through a textured, patterned ceiling feature and playful brickslip walls. This layered materiality is further complemented by bespoke rope pendants that anchor each dining table, enhancing a sense of intimacy within the space.

As we developed Bricks & Butter at The Linc KL, one of the defining challenges was unifying a footprint of over 9,000 sqft that effectively comprised three separate sites. Spatial planning became central to resolving this complexity, ensuring the spaces functioned cohesively both visually and operationally.

To maintain a strong relationship between these zones and the core of the store, the main counter is deliberately oriented on a diagonal towards the entrance and external alfresco areas, creating close proximity while preserving smooth internal circulation.

Careful consideration of sight lines ensures uninterrupted views into the main dining space within the lot, visually linking the different zones. The pastry counter and coffee bar are positioned opposite one another, forming an intentional bottleneck that gently slows movement and encourages patrons to pause, engage, and fully experience the product displays.

We adopted a refined nautical approach that allows the space to stand out within its subterranean surroundings. Wall paneling in a rich, soft-satin textured finish is highlighted by sail-like fabric wall sconces. This interplay of "hard and soft" the tactile fabric of the sails against polished rose gold details elevates the space beyond the familiar.
