In this evocative painting, Nigerian artist Victor Ubabike explores themes of solitude, memory, and longing through delicate strokes and a restrained yet vibrant palette. The figure’s seated pose, partially turned away, invites quiet contemplation, while the subtle tension between the warm, earthy tones and the cool, fading background suggests an inner dialogue between vulnerability and strength.

The single blue rose, loose and almost slipping away, becomes a poetic symbol of fleeting beauty, unspoken emotions, and the fragility of human connection. Ubabike’s painterly technique embraces naturalistic stylisation of forms in equal measure, allowing viewers to navigate the boundaries between presence and absence, desire and resignation.
