I’m sorry Mama!!! Today,I’m cleaning out my closet
Yes…. But it’s not what you might be thinking.😂😂😂
😂
Here’s my confession or profession, most of us Nigerians are really living above my means. Hear me out or read me before you start getting all defensive. Starting with my humble self I went into my closet and I found that I am not wearing at least 2/3rds of what I have both in shoes and clothes and I’ve found that 1/3rd of my closet are brand new clothes with tags that I’m not wearing.
In truth there are clothes that I would almost wear back to back until they’re are worn and I’m not so fancy with my dressing either, but I’ve found things in my wardrobe that I’m hard pressed to ask myself very serious questions.
No doubt in my mind that God is not happy with my wasteful ways and all or most of us are culprits here. Therefore, we can conclude that part of what God is doing to us in this season is to get us to cut off many wasteful habits. In a discussion with my brother last night while asking me how I’m coping in this economy, we reflected much and came to a conclusion that like an onion, we are going to have to peel off several layers of waste and excess in order to get it right.
Analysts say and project that it will get worse so it’s only wise for one to begin to look at how to cut down seriously on personal expenses and to find alternatives that won’t lead to too much loss of standard of living.
There is so much pressure to belong in our society today. As an Igbo person I’m asking myself where did this culture of asoebi come from? The lavish events even for burials , when you look at photos from funerals you will see people showing off fashion, a tear here or there but no true reflection on the death , it’s all about showing off. Our Igbo weddings didn’t have to be as expensive as it is this days. Today people are trying to spend money in 100s of millions for parties and events how did we get here. Is it the cost of wigs, taste for designer bags and status symbols that don’t add anything to any one’s lives if at all it reduces your confidence as you gradually become dependent on those material things to feel whole.
Money is so terribly misappropriated in Nigeria we spend more money on useless things and then starve the very vital things of funds so we need to get our priorities straight really.
I’m starting with the man in the mirror. They say charity begins at home. So while you are crying, accusing government, protesting remember to first pluck out the log in your own eyes, go home take a rain check, most of what you have in your house is useless to you. Apart from the spiritual and physical implications of declutterring, it is very therapeutic to shed off excess weight and clean up your space. What and how have you used your resources? That’s where the problem lies (makpus).
The real men of wealth are not excessive , they are simple , practical and highly prudent.
If we all cut our coat according to our size life will surely be more meaningful.
I come in peace.
