Slow fashion is the use of eco-friendly and biodegradable materials or organic products to make fashion items. Slow fashion is sustainable because they are made ethically and have a less negative impact on the environment. Different from fast fashion, which involves fast production and distribution of fashion items that are non-biodegradable and mostly inorganic thereby contributing to landfill wastes leading to environmental pollution, slow fashion ranks quality over quantity and aims to seek social responsibility and accountability from everyone.
All humans generate waste from clothing and other fashion items and this makes us one of the biggest waste contributors because all humans wear clothes. It is a major necessity and this emphasizes the need for us all to be responsible for the effects of this waste.
There are ways to start taking responsibility and we can serve in one way or the other by:
• Recycling wastes like bottles or plastics which can be used to make clothes, sun shades and other products.
• Buying high-quality fashion items that are durable and last longer
• Buying handmade or custom made custom-made. A very good example of this is handmade knitted or crochet bags, dresses, decor and other products
• Buying thrift or pre-loved fashion items that can be used again to become useful again and sustainable instead of trashing them.
• Refashioning old items into items that can be reused.
I bet you can do 2 or 3 of the options listed above. By doing any of this, you are contributing positively to the environment and keeping the environment healthy. The earth is our home and we should always put the earth to mind and put our mind to earth. 💚♻️🌍💚
