We all know Red velvet cake. With it's distinct velvety feel in the mouth, rich buttery taste as well as the mild chocolate taste coupled with a hint of vanilla. Couple this with the slight tanginess of cream cheese frosting and it tastes nearly like heaven (hungry yet?π€€).
But did you know about Blue Velvet Cake?
'What's the difference?', you might ask.
Well traditionally, red velvet derived it's colour from beet juice (that sounds nasty right?) The blue Velvet however got it's colour from blueberries. Both derived their texture from the chemical reaction between the cocoa powder, buttermilk and baking soda.
Nowadays, however, the major difference between Red and Blue Velvet Cake is... You guess it! Food coloring! So whether blue or red velvet cake, you still get the same delectable taste, you just need to decide what color you prefer.
Which would you prefer?
