FG scraps Electricity fixed charge billing, increases tariffs. Meaning you will only have to pay for what you consume.

So Lagos residents will no longer pay the N750 fixed charge, but will have their electricity tariffs increased by N10 for those under Eko Electricity Distribution Company, while those under Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company will have their tariffs increased by N8.

Welcome to the "Li-Fi" era!

Li-Fi, a super-fast alternative to Wi-Fi, has been proven capable of sending data at up to 1GBps in real-world tests.

Li-Fi uses light to beam information through the air. Light is already used to transmit data across fibre optic networks at high speed. These work by guiding the light along optical fibres using total internal reflection, so that no information is lost along the way.

Li-Fi technology was originated in 2011 by Professor Harald Haas of the University of Edinburgh, who demonstrated that, with a flickering light from a single LED, he could transmit more data than a cellular tower.

Professor Haas, delivered a TED talk about his technology in 2011, which has attracted more than 1.7 million views.

Egbin Power Plant resumes generation as power surges to 4,600MW.

Mrs Seun Olagunju, the Director, Public Affairs, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), says the nation’s power generation capacity has increased from 3,657 megawatts to 4,600 megawatts.

Olagunju attributed the development to the resumption of operations at the Egbin Power Station early this week, which bounced back to 813 megawatts one week after it recorded zero generation due to workers’ crisis at the plant.

The Egbin power plant accounts for roughly 20 percent of all power generated in the country. With the workers’ crisis incident, close 1,000mw was lost, leading to reduced supply to electricity users.

Olagunju noted that the power generation started increasing early this week and stood at 4,600 megawatts as of October 16.

N8.7 billion naira annually is what Nigeria has to suffer for still using the old N50 naira incandescent bulb.

Mr Goodluck Enyinnaya, Secretary, Board of Trustees, Electricity Consumers Association of Nigeria (ECAN), says Nigeria loses N8.7 billion yearly because many electricity consumers use Incandescent bulbs which consumes more energy.

Enyinnaya made the disclosure on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

“Nigeria loses N8.7 billion every year because many electricity consumers use incandescent bulbs which consume more energy than energy saving bulbs; hence a large quantum of energy is lost by this process.

“That is why ECAN is advising energy consumers in the country to use the energy saving bulbs which consumes lesser energy,’’ he said.

According to him, the essence of using the energy saving bulbs was to ensure that a lot of energies could be saved for other purposes.

He said that the association was making efforts to ensure that consumers paid fewer tariffs on the electricity they consume.

Enyinnaya urged consumers to be rational in their power consumption by ensuring that they used appropriate electrical appliances, adding that the use of obsolete devices affected power negatively.

He advised consumers to use energy saving bulbs which attract fewer tariffs and also reduced money they spent on buying fuel for their generators because incandescent bulbs also consume more fuel.

Buy quality energy efficient bulbs from TCP today.

Wondering why power supply has slightly reduced lately? Here's why.....

Egbin Thermal Power Plant in Ikorodu, Lagos State, the biggest generating power station in Nigeria, has shut operations, leading to a drop from its 1,100 megawatts to zero.

It was gathered that its generation dropped since one week ago.

A senior management staff of the station told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the cause was due to an alleged sabotage by one of the former employees of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

He told NAN that the aggrieved former staff member threw an object into the main power generating plant and it tripped off.

The new management at Egbin Power have tried to lay-off the former workers of the unbundled PHCN, however, issues of severance package, gratuity, etc have snowballed into regular confrontation, which led to one of the aggrieved ex-worker sabotaging the plant in retaliation.
