Before you pay for any bedspread, look at the label. Three numbers decide how it will feel in six months. Most buyers only check one.
Number one is weight. It is measured in grams per square metre. Below 180, the fabric feels thin after a few washes and the corner starts to sag. Above 220, it holds its shape and drapes properly on the bed.
Number two is weave. A tight matte weave β usually called percale β holds colour, feels cool, and hides small marks. A loose shiny weave β usually called sateen β feels soft and luxurious but shows every stain and every crease.
Number three is pre-shrinking. Good cotton is shrunk before it is cut. That is the only reason a well-made set still fits your mattress on the tenth wash, not just the first.
This is the check we run on every bedspread we sell, before it reaches a shelf. Most of what we reject never gets a label because the numbers do not pass.
