Inspiration! I would like to share with you some of the beautiful art pieces of the Art Biennale 2024 in Venezia. I was there end of September with a close friend. Five days in Venice, admiring art. And: celebrating our friendship that covers more than four decades, enjoying the city with its dancing water, admiring the incredible light theatre brought to us by nature, la cena con vino, and of course some Select Spritz - the genuine Venetian one.
The theme of this Biennale: Stranieri Ovunque (Strangers Everywhere)
1-3 Dana Awartani “Let me mend your broken bones”. She tears wholes across yards of silk, each rip meaning a historic and cultural site in the Arab world, destroyed by war and acts of terror. Then she darns -a fading practice- and the resulting scars symbolise the ones left behind.
4&5 Nour Jaouda is a Lybian artist. Fig trees belonging to the artist’s grandmother lend their poetic impetus to the textiles displayed at Biennale Arte. Vegetably dyed, sumptuously layered fabrics.
6-10 Bordadoras de Isla Negra. “Untitled”, 1972. Please scroll, so beautiful! Bordadoras de la Isla Negra was a group of self-taught women who, between 1967 and 1980, embroidered brightly coloured textiles that vividly tell the story of daily life in this coastal village in Chile. This incredible piece of art was assembled in a record time of 275 days.
