Building Connected Communities | The Art of Platforms & Stairs

Communities thrive when people are given places to pause, meet and connect. Across our projects, platforms and planting are used as architectural tools that transform workplaces into vibrant social landscapes.

At Booking.com, ING Cedar, and Reykjavik Energy Headquarters, elevated platforms create destinations throughout the building, offering a variety of settings for collaboration, informal meetings and focused work. Integrated greenery softens these environments, bringing nature closer to everyday life while creating moments of calm within dynamic workplaces.

These spaces encourage movement and spontaneous encounters. Each platform becomes part of a larger journey through the building, where architecture supports interaction, wellbeing and a strong sense of community.

Aegon Schiphol | A Workplace in Balance

The Aegon Schiphol office is designed to support different ways of working throughout the day. Generous, light-filled spaces encourage collaboration and transparency, while more grounded environments provide calm, acoustically comfortable settings for concentration and privacy.
Rather than separating these functions, the workplace carefully layers them throughout the building. Employees can move naturally between collaborative spaces, meeting rooms and focused work environments, choosing the setting that best supports their task and mindset.

Material choices, colour accents and carefully considered sightlines create a consistent architectural language that feels both open and refined. Every space contributes to a workplace that is flexible, intuitive and centred around the needs of its users.

The result is an environment where collaboration and focus exist in balance, supporting both individual performance and collective success.

Aegon Schiphol | Hospitality at Work

Hospitality is an integral part of the Aegon Schiphol workplace. Located on the entrance floor, the restaurant and coffee bar form the social heart of the building, creating a welcoming environment where employees naturally come together throughout the day.

Designed as a shared living room, the space supports informal meetings, daily conversations and moments of exchange that strengthen connections across the organisation. The workplace extends beyond individual desks, encouraging people to meet, collaborate and build community.

Warm materials, generous daylight and carefully positioned colour accents create an atmosphere that feels open, comfortable and inviting. Clear sightlines reinforce the connection between spaces while maintaining a human scale throughout the interior.

By placing hospitality at the centre of the workplace, the design supports wellbeing, collaboration and a culture built around everyday interaction.

Aegon Schiphol | Connection Through Architecture

The Aegon Schiphol office for Corporate Center and Asset Management is designed around movement, connection and human interaction. At the centre of the workplace, a series of expressive red staircases and spatial voids create a continuous architectural journey that connects people, perspectives and activities across the building.

Rather than simply linking different floors, the stairs shape the daily experience of the workplace. Strong visual connections and intuitive routes encourage employees to move naturally through the building, creating opportunities for spontaneous encounters and collaboration along the way.

The architectural journey balances openness with clarity. Dynamic communal spaces are carefully connected to quieter work environments, allowing collaboration and concentration to exist alongside one another without compromise.

By transforming circulation into experience, the design demonstrates how architecture can actively strengthen connection and create a workplace centred around people.

Rembrandt Park One | Bolenius

At the Rembrandtpark, Bolenius brings a new public destination to Rembrandt Park One. Located within the glass pavilion overlooking the water, the restaurant strengthens the connection between the building, the landscape and the city, inviting both office users and visitors to experience the park throughout the day.

The pavilion forms an essential part of the redevelopment, activating the ground floor with hospitality and creating a welcoming environment that extends beyond the workplace. Large transparent façades frame panoramic views of the surrounding greenery, while generous terraces blur the boundary between inside and outside.

Designed as part of the sustainable transformation of the former Ringpark building, the restaurant reflects the ambition to create a more open, connected and vibrant destination. Hospitality becomes an integral part of the architecture, encouraging people to meet, linger and engage with the park in new ways.

By combining workplace, public space and high-quality hospitality, Rembrandt Park One demonstrates how adaptive reuse can transform an existing office building into a lively place that contributes to the wider city.
