The handwriting of Studio Thier&vanDaalen is unique. Because of the spaciousness and poetic character, what can be found in their work. They create a new space or object which is in relationship with its environment. Through a clear play of colour, light and reflection, sleek and transparent designs arise. Both aesthetics and usability are important starting points, a challenge which seems impossible. For more information look at: www.thiervandaalen.com

🍊🥃 Orange Crush 🌶️ Colour, and the endless possibilities of how colours meet, blend and transform.

We keep exploring new combinations, never quite knowing how they will come together until the glass takes shape. Every new colour experiment is a little surprise, a moment of discovery.

I think this piece turned out beautifully. What do you think?

Now, just one important step to go: adding the light behind it and watching the colours truly come alive ☀️

Come and see this final result during Dutch Design Week | DDW this October, at our studio at Sectie-C in Eindhoven.

After more than 10 years, The Plastic Mine is coming to an end 👋🏻👋🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Last week we were really pushing hard to create this mesmerising final collection from all the stock we still have 😅😅

It’s the end of an era for The Plastic Mine, where we had so much fun turning overproduction plastic ‘waste’ into interior beauties 🐠🥒🍥🍭🧠

But why stop?
We are shifting our focus towards our growing lighting collection, and the factory we have been collaborating with is closing its production site in the Netherlands.

We have loved making The Plastic Mine and we are proud of what we created together with the beautiful collaborations along the way 🫶🏻 But it feels like the right time to focus more on light, materials and creating new designs. It is exciting and we are really looking forward to what is next 💡🌱

Want to know more about our new focus? Come visit us during Dutch Design Week | DDW 17–25 October, and experience our products and lighting in our studio space Sectie-C We’re also celebrating 15 years of studio Thier & van Daalen, so there is plenty to celebrate!

The final Plastic Mine shelves will be launched this Friday 21.08.2026 at 12.00 CET

We love sharing the drive behind our work: the concept, the fascination, and the process that brings each piece to life.

Glass is one of those endless fascinations. At the same time, it’s a material we sometimes have a love-hate relationship with. It asks for patience, precision, and a willingness to let go. No matter how much experience you have, you never have complete control. And perhaps that’s exactly what makes it so intriguing, vulnerable, and beautiful.

Glass is a material that can last for generations. Its transparency, depth, and endless play of colour continue to amaze us every single time.

If you’re curious to see what we’re working on, or would like to discover the pieces we’ve created, you’re very welcome to visit our studio.

Visits are by appointment only 😅

These striking pieces are not disappearing, but finding new homes. These little lamps began as tiny plastic offcuts we couldn’t throw away. Now they’ve become something worth keeping forever.
