Studio Thier&vanDaalen

The handwriting of Studio Thier&vanDaalen is unique. Because of the spaciousness and poetic character, what can be found in their work. They create a new space or object which is in relationship with its environment. Through a clear play of colour, light and reflection, sleek and transparent designs arise. Both aesthetics and usability are important starting points, a challenge which seems impossible. For more information look at: www.thiervandaalen.com

Each piece is unique due to the free-blown, hand-shaped process, not formed in a mold, but on or at the edge of the grid.
The steel geometric grid leaves a gentle imprint in the glass. Always fascinating to witness their creation in Leerdam.

Bubble wrap can be mysterious beautiful too🫧
It sparks curiosity without hiding the shape or colour.
Peeling it off is always a small celebration 🪩
the moment the light installation finally reveals what it does to the space.

Here you see an art light installation project we did last year.
Three lines of GRID lights echo the stained-glass windows, guiding the eye upward through the stairwell.
Light, architecture and time in constant dialogue.
Thanks to .nl for the collaboration.

We’ve made a new batch of Ribbon Lights!
They’ve been online in our webshop since today, 12:00 CET.
They’re already going fast, so if you like them, have a look✨

These small lamps grew from the tiniest plastic offcuts we saved over the years, pieces that intrigued us, though we never knew what they would become. Now they have found their purpose, ready to find a beautiful place on someone’s wall, sideboard or table 🛋️

I’m touched by this ambient light 🏮🐙
Simple in form, yet the light effect both within the piece and on the surrounding space is beautiful. It brings so much ambience.

For this piece we used the filigrain technique, a traditional glassblowing method that allows fine lines to be drawn into the glass. It’s quite labour intensive, so it doesn’t make things cheaper, but it’s incredibly rewarding to see and experience the effect!

This object is currently on view in Leerdam. Truly recommended to visit.
Our work can be seen there until 15th of March, alongside many other beautiful work. ✨

🥊🧊a bulge of liquid 💦
Breathed into a metal grid, glass swells into tiny lenses that conjure shifting plays of light. A fragile dialogue arises soft, rounded glass touches the stern geometry of metal, where tenderness meets edge.
