After more than 10 years, The Plastic Mine is coming to an end 👋🏻👋🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Last week we were really pushing hard to create this mesmerising final collection from all the stock we still have 😅😅

It’s the end of an era for The Plastic Mine, where we had so much fun turning overproduction plastic ‘waste’ into interior beauties 🐠🥒🍥🍭🧠

But why stop?
We are shifting our focus towards our growing lighting collection, and the factory we have been collaborating with is closing its production site in the Netherlands.

We have loved making The Plastic Mine and we are proud of what we created together with the beautiful collaborations along the way 🫶🏻 But it feels like the right time to focus more on light, materials and creating new designs. It is exciting and we are really looking forward to what is next 💡🌱

Want to know more about our new focus? Come visit us during Dutch Design Week | DDW 17–25 October, and experience our products and lighting in our studio space Sectie-C We’re also celebrating 15 years of studio Thier & van Daalen, so there is plenty to celebrate!

We love sharing the drive behind our work: the concept, the fascination, and the process that brings each piece to life.

Glass is one of those endless fascinations. At the same time, it’s a material we sometimes have a love-hate relationship with. It asks for patience, precision, and a willingness to let go. No matter how much experience you have, you never have complete control. And perhaps that’s exactly what makes it so intriguing, vulnerable, and beautiful.

Glass is a material that can last for generations. Its transparency, depth, and endless play of colour continue to amaze us every single time.

If you’re curious to see what we’re working on, or would like to discover the pieces we’ve created, you’re very welcome to visit our studio.

Each piece is unique due to the free-blown, hand-shaped process, not formed in a mold, but on or at the edge of the grid.
The steel geometric grid leaves a gentle imprint in the glass. Always fascinating to witness their creation in Leerdam.
