A client wanted a miniature of my Eye oval table and Loupe chair, to display her collection of 18th-century silver miniatures. At first I couldn’t quite picture it. But now that I see it, I completely understand. And the combination of my designs — contemporary design — with those beautiful old, tiny silver objects moves me!

When I designed this table in 2004, the Longlegs oval table, I could never have imagined that it would be copied all over the world. The idea — a cross-shaped base beneath an oval table, allowing you to sit anywhere around it — turned out to be a golden one. But the copycats have never managed to make it as beautiful as the original. A subtle bend in the leg raises the joint higher and lets the leg flare out elegantly.
This version in bright red high-gloss lacquer I made in 2008. Timeless. Don’t you think?

Recently I designed this table: Turntable. Made from solid oak and finished with stain and oil in a reddish-brown colour. The table is hand-turned and made in Haarlem.

A lot of work and a lot of fun!

For my new shop in Haarlem I created a display with leftover sticks in oak, tied together with little strings of black cotton. A perfect way to show a few of my little scale models. All made in a scale of 1:10. I make them either on my 3d printer or I have them cut out with a laser cutter. I always start with small-scale models before making the final piece.
