FAMILIAR FORMS. SHIFTING MEANINGS.

Religious figures become stretched, fragmented and disrupted in the sculptures of Tom Haakman.

Through glitches and digital distortion, he explores how images, beliefs and traditions change in contemporary life. What remains recognisable—and what begins to slip away?

A cm laude graduate of HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, Haakman has works in the collection of Museum Catharijneconvent in Utrecht.

SIDNEY WAERTS | BLISS

We are pleased to present charcoal works on paper from Sidney Waerts’ Bliss series at Art The Hague, 14–18 October.

In this series, Waerts (1976) explores the contrasts between light and darkness, stillness and movement. Inspired by nature and Japanese Sumi-e painting, he works intuitively with charcoal, embracing simplicity and spontaneity.

His works capture both the movement and quietness of nature.

RENSKE HERDER | EVERY DAY MOMENTS

Renske Herder has her own way of looking at everyday life. In her paintings, she captures moments, places and things that stay with her — memories that, looking back, have meaning.

Working mainly with oil on linen, Renske has developed a visual language that is immediately recognisable. Colour, pattern and composition play an important role, turning familiar scenes into something unmistakably her own.

Her latest works continue this personal view on daily life, capturing the small moments that are worth remembering.

Her paintings feel both relatable and outstanding — familiar in subject, yet completely her own.

Currently at view in Stockholm Affordable Art Fair Stockholm till Oct 4.
and soon at Art The Hague 14 - 18 th of October and of course in the gallery in Haarlem.

ROGER COLL | SCULPTURE IN CLAY

Roger Coll makes clay behave in unexpected ways.

His sculptures can look soft and flexible, or sometimes almost like forged steel or bronze — while they are actually made from hard, fragile ceramic. With a background in architecture and sculpture, Roger has a natural sense of form, balance and structure.

Yet he never sketches his sculptures beforehand. He works directly with the clay, letting each piece take shape as he goes. The result is a playful tension between softness and strength, movement and weight.

His work has been shown internationally at PAD Paris, Collect London, Collectible Brussels, Ceramic Brussels and the Cheongju Craft Biennale, among others.

Some materials already have a story. Artist Olav van Lede gives them a new one.

Working with original historical paper, Van Lede connects the past with the present. Old maps, books, documents and sheet music become the starting point for new artworks. By cutting, layering and transforming these materials, he creates new stories while keeping their history alive.

For Crazy Piano, he used original sheet music from 1920 by Oscar Schwalm, written for young musicians. Learning music starts with rules, practice and repetition. But once you master the basics, you are free to create your own rhythm. The playful piano captures that moment when skill turns into creativity.

A work where past and present come together through music, memory and imagination.

Crazy Piano (150 x 150 cm) is on view with Chez Freddy art & design at North Sea Jazz Art during the North Sea Jazz Festival.

Artist Olav van Lede gives them a new one.

Meet the Blow-up Lamp by Dutch designer Willem Zwiers.

What happens when you stop following the rules of ceramics?

Instead of avoiding air bubbles, Willem embraces them. Through intuition, playfulness and self-built tools, he transforms clay in unexpected ways. By blowing compressed air between two clay slabs inside a wooden mould, the material inflates like a balloon, creating a sculptural lamp unlike any other.

His work challenges conventional production methods and celebrates experimentation over perfection.

This series of wood and acrylic panels by Daniel Martin will be presented by Galerie Chez Freddy Art & Design during Art Island, from May 22–24, set within the unique atmosphere of a historic fort.

The works are inspired by the idea that we never perceive reality completely directly, but always experience a version or interpretation of it. Shadow, depth, and movement play an essential role, allowing the image to continuously shift depending on perspective and light.

Tickets for Art Island are available via the Art Island website.
