To you this is probably a very common picture of a woman and a horse. For us it is very special.
Last spring Ger was diagnosed with severe colic and the vets told us to pray for a miracle, as the chance that she would survive was almost nonexistent. But she's a strong horse and survived.
Three months ago I was diagnosed with colon cancer, but I was incredibly lucky and didn't have any metastases. Six weeks ago the tumor was removed and I was declaired free of cancer again. Today was the first time that my daughter Fenna, Ger and I went out with the three of us again and the thought suddenly crossed my mind how close my daughter has been this year to losing both her mum and care horse. I'm so incredibly thankful that we both got a second chance!
So this post is dedicated to the staff of the horse hospital and medical centre Leeuwarden . We owe you so much! Thank you!

If anyone has the guts to tell me that climatechange is a hoax or just a complottheory, I'm going to punch them in the face. This is what it looks like from my backdoor. Twothird of our garden has flooded overnight and that has only happened in the last three or four years, never before and it's getting worse every autumn.

Some of the other finds from the Palmhout wreck (Boxwood, named after all pieces of boxwood found on the wreck). Found after almost 400 years on the sea bed. There was a beautiful red slik etui, covered with intricate silverthread embroidery and a wooden comb in it. Another piece of the same silver embroidery, thought to have been a pin cushion. Silk stockings, when found neatly in a roll, a red bodice.... A red velvet kaftan from the Ottoman empire. A table mirror behind wooden doors, covered with fabric with beautiful embroidery. And according to the documentary, there was a gold thimble as well, although it wasn't in the exhibition. So there probably would have been other pretty sewing tools. You can just close your eyes and see this unknown lady sitting behind her vanity table, opening the mirror, taking out the comb from the etui and starting to comb her hair. Taking out a needle to sew on a loose button on a dress...
You can almost feel her presence... Incredible!

Today we visited the isle of Texel. We first went to Museum Kaap Skil to see The Dress and other finds from the Palmwood wreck. In 2014 local divers discovered the wreck of a Dutch trading vessel from around 1650. By the wreck they found a chest with the most amazing luxury items, but the really unique find from it was The Dress. It is a silk satin dress for a very wealthy woman, typical of the early to mid 17th century. Only very few dresses from this period have survived and this one did not only survive the ages, but about 400 years under the waves as well. It is just amazing to actually stand beside a dress that was worn nearly 400 years ago and to know that its owner probably died in a storm, sending all her precious belongings to the bottom of the sea to be found after ages. Since 2014 research has be done on it and the museum has been completely altered to house the collection. Recently the exhibition has been opened. In a documentary on Dutch television the story of the finding of the wreck an dress was told. In the last picture you see a painting of an English lady in a dress that comes pretty close.

Borg Verhildersum is one of the beautiful old country homes of the province Groningen. It has a lovely 19th century interior, looking as if the original owners could return home any moment. You can also visit the estate farm and a worker's cottage. A lovely place to visit!
