De Nederlandse televisie stond nog in de kinderschoenen en onze vakmensen bouwden al de decors waarmee er werd uitgezonden. In deze aflevering gaan we terug naar het begin: live televisie, zwart-wit, de komst van kleur en de tijd waarin televisie nog volledig in handen was van de publieke omroep.

Dutch television was beginning, and our craftsmen were already building the sets it was broadcast from. In this episode, we go back to the start: live television, black and white, the arrival of colour, and a time when television was still entirely in the hands of public broadcasting.

Former colleagues Arnold Kroon and Anuska Bán share their time at Unbranded, and Ad Visser looks back on the black-and-white era and TopPop. The documentary is in Dutch.

Last Thursday, we celebrated 75 years of Unbranded with an afternoon to remember. The premiere of our documentary about our history in the Ziggo Sport Studio.

Today, 2 October, marks 75 years since the first Dutch television broadcast went on air from Bussum in 1951. 📺

Behind the scenes, our craftsmen at NTS were building the first sets. That was the start of what has become Unbranded, the set decor company we are today.
From 1951 to 2026: 75 years of craftsmanship, passion, and growth.

𝟭𝟵𝟴𝟬 - 𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟬 • 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙚 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙩

In 1988, the NTS privatises its facilities. The set-building department continues independently as NOB Decor, joined by designers from the former set design department. It becomes the market leader in set construction for television, theatre, and events.

Commercial television is booming, productions are getting bigger, and the demands on the craft are growing fast. With privatisation comes a new reality: broadcasters are no longer required to use NTS/NOB and can choose other suppliers. From that moment on, NOB Decor operates in an open market, competing with external companies as well.

Throughout the 1980s, we built sets for Countdown, Soundmixshow, Rons Honeymoonquiz, and Willem Ruis Show.

The opportunity to create a DJ booth for Tiësto AND have it sit directly underneath the iconic Atomium? Count us in! Projects like these are where we're in our element.

Making a perfect sphere requires precision from the get-go. To get the shape right, we fully 3D-milled the base and then wrapped it as tightly as possible in mirror film. A huge challenge, but seeing it shine out there made every bit of it worth it!

𝟭𝟵𝟳𝟬 - 𝟭𝟵𝟴𝟬 • 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙚 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙩

In 1972, the department moves to its permanent home: Media Park in Hilversum, where it continues under the name NOS Dekor. A team of specialists comes together under one roof: machine woodworking, carpentry, decoration, painting, metalwork, plaster, chemistry, upholstery, light decoration, floral decoration, props, a furniture warehouse, a lamp warehouse, costume props, a textile warehouse, and weapons.

Colour television is now the standard, and productions grow bigger, faster, and more ambitious by the year.

Throughout the 1970s, we built sets for TopPop, Brandpunt, Ti ta Tovenaar, and Kunt u mij de weg naar Hamelen vertellen, mijnheer?
