Guido de Groot Design was launched in 1997 and is based in Leiden, the oldest university town in Holland. The award-winning studio employs eight designers of varying nationalities and specializes in innovative interiors and exteriors for both luxury motor and sailing yachts. Through the years, the Guido de Groot's design office has evolved to the point that it works with some of the most prestigious shipyards worldwide. Many of the projects combine interior and exterior design and include sailing yachts, fast motor cruisers and more sedate displacement yachts. The Guido de Groot philosophy is to create high-quality designs, both interior and exterior, that should be appreciated for their purity and harmony. The Glacier 44 Chase is a 13.4-metre aluminium luxury chase boat that combines the refinement of a limousine tender with the speed and capabilities of a true support vessel.

Designed by Guido de Groot and his team and built to meet the demands of modern superyacht operations, she offers a spacious, protected interior for discreet guest transfers, while being equally at home as a high-speed chase boat or a standalone recreational yacht.

And what a show it was! The 39-metre Jongert motor yacht Smooth Operator was sold on the opening morning of the Cannes Yachting Festival.

Fully designed by our studio and delivered in 2012, she became the first yacht to be sold at the show last week.

For true lovers of Ocean Explorer yachts, Selene Yachts is the shipyard to visit at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

On display is the Selene 64. It is always a pleasure to meet Candy, with whom we have developed an extensive range of Ocean Explorer yachts over the years, from the 18-metre “60” model all the way up to the 28-metre “92” model. Hull No. 2 of the latter has just been released from the mould.

We are proud to have been part of the evolution of the Selene Ocean Explorer family and look forward to seeing how the range continues to grow.

The Selene 78 Ocean Expedition is the latest addition to the family of modern "go-anywhere" yachts we have developed together with the shipyard. With her sturdier, more angular profile, she stands apart from the Selene Ocean Explorer series, which we also designed.

The new Ocean Expedition series highlights the shipyard's commitment to broadening its portfolio and reaching new markets, further strengthened by the recent expansion of its production facilities.

For the Stratos Dutch Build 75, Guido de Groot Design developed a dynamic interior that seamlessly combines space, light, and refinement, creating an environment that feels both powerful and inviting.

Abundant natural light floods the interior, while uninterrupted ocean views maintain a constant connection with the sea, whether seated or standing. Every element has been carefully designed to interact with its surroundings, enhancing the sense of freedom and openness on board.

Here are some additional images we created for our proposal of a Lancia Thesis Coupé, commissioned by one of our clients and a passionate Lancia enthusiast. The project explored a simple question:

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘵 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘱é 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘵𝘴 2002–2008 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘦𝘥𝘢𝘯, 𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘭𝘶𝘹𝘶𝘳𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘳-𝘥𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘵?

Based on the 3.2 V6 24V sedan, we gave the car a sportier front end with a wider grille, subtly raked the windscreen, and drew inspiration from the iconic Lancia Aurelia for the rear section. The rear window design itself takes cues from Lancia’s signature grille, creating a distinctive visual connection to the brand’s rich heritage.

Although the project never progressed beyond a 3D computer model and a series of 3D-printed scale models, it remains an exciting design study. We would love to see this unique creation brought to life one day and cruising the roads in the hands of a true Lancia enthusiast.
