There is something compelling about driftwood because nothing in it is perfectly planned. Time, water and movement leave the surface irregular, marked, almost accidental.
Takara Candles translates that character into metal.
In the atelier, every branch is sculpted and forged by hand, with knots, splits, ridges and turns worked into the surface until the form feels naturally irregular from every angle. The work is not about making metal look decorative. It is about giving it the depth and unpredictability of something that might have been shaped by nature rather than made.
That surface is what makes the finishes so expressive. Bronze Dark Patina settles into the deeper areas and strengthens the shadows. Nickel catches the raised edges with a sharper reflection. Gold Leaf, applied layer by layer, creates a striking contrast between the rugged branch and an unexpectedly precious surface.
The satin glass candles soften the light above, while integrated downlights provide focused illumination to the table beneath. Atmosphere and functional light come together in one lighting sculpture.

Salsa plays with something instantly familiar: the chandelier, its branching form and its candles. Then it lets the lines loose.

Its metal lines are sculpted by hand, one movement at a time, crossing, turning and looping back into one another.

As you move around it, the silhouette keeps shifting. Lines separate, overlap and meet again, creating a rhythm that makes the chandelier feel almost in motion.

At the ends, finely fluted mouth-blown satin candles catch the light in their vertical texture. The glow seems to rise through the glass, almost dancing with the lines around it.

The same freedom of line gives Salsa a very different presence from one interior to another. In a contemporary space, the candles and recognisable silhouette bring warmth and a subtle sense of tradition. In a classical setting, the freer drawing of the metal introduces movement, asymmetry and a contemporary character.

The finish changes both its silhouette and its expression. In nickel, they become fluid and elusive, catching and reflecting their surroundings as the lines sweep through space. In black, every curve and crossing becomes more graphic. In gold, the movement feels warmer, richer and more sensual.

Salsa is available in different configurations; its size, finish and number of lights can be adapted when a project calls for a different scale. Several chandeliers can also be grouped together for larger spaces.

Many art objects begin with a drawing. Orpheus begins with a stone.

William Brand chooses the specimen first: amethyst, malachite, pyrite, calcite, rock crystal. The metal is then made to answer it. Branches are forged around one particular face and one particular fracture, embracing the stone. This is why no two frames in the collection are alike.

Light is placed carefully afterwards. A spotlight set into the frame is angled into the crystal, revealing colour and depth already present within the stone. Downlights integrated into the same structure illuminate the table or surface below, so the object serves the room as well as commanding its attention.

Bronze Dark Patina keeps the metal quiet, closer to bark and shadow than to polished metal, leaving the mineral at the centre of the experience.

Orpheus works as a pair of pendants beside a bed, as a round chandelier above a dining table, or as several elements gathered above a table or seating area.

It can also begin with a mineral that already belongs to you: inherited, collected, or brought home from somewhere that mattered.

Blossom began with a very simple fascination: the moment before a flower opens, when everything is still held inward and the form feels full of potential.

Each petal is a mouth-blown disk of glass, set by hand onto individually forged branches, each at a different height and angle. That freedom gives Blossom its airy, almost instinctive rhythm. light travels through the object at different levels, giving the room a softer, almost tender illumination.

Satin white softens and diffuses the light within the glass, creating a calm, enveloping glow. Smoky grey keeps the glass transparent, allowing light to travel through it, catching reflections and overlapping surfaces and creating more depth, warmth and visual movement.

The metal finishes, Silver Satin, Gold Satin, Brass Aged Colour and Bronze Dark Patina, change the character again, making the branch structure either more present or more discreet.

Blossom takes several forms and behaves differently depending on scale: a round chandelier that gathers gently above a seating area, a vertical installation that falls through a stairwell and opens as it descends, and sculptural objects that carry the same language into a stronger, bolder expression.

Blossom can remain compact and delicate or develop into a much more architectural presence. Standard configurations make it easy to specify, while scale, finish and arrangement can be adapted where the project calls for something more individual.

A flower usually opens once. Blossom keeps that moment suspended.

Bubbles rarely behaves the same way twice. Everything depends on the room that receives it: the colour of the walls, the daylight, the height of the ceiling, the proportions around it.

In the interior by Vos Interieur, grasscloth, stone and fluted timber give the iridescent glass a deeper, warmer character. The spheres gather light across their surfaces, while the dark sculpted frame almost disappears into the room.

In the garden-facing open space by Studio C. Interieurs, Bubbles takes a lighter expression. Clear glass sits on a slender brass frame, stretched into a more linear configuration and proportioned to the long oval table below. Daylight passes through the glass and becomes part of how the chandelier is seen throughout the day.

With Atelier Ambiance, the challenge was very different. In a bedroom with limited ceiling height and an original plaster rose, Bubbles Swirl was mounted close to the ceiling. The black frame moves through the existing ornament, and the iridescent spheres catch changing reflections from the room below.

Every sphere is mouth-blown and every frame sculpted by hand in our atelier. That allows Bubbles to change in scale, density, orientation and finish, and to be composed into cascades, clusters or linear arrangements when the architecture calls for it.
The collection remains recognisable, but every interior gives it another character.

This year, Brand van Egmond joins the route at Cosentino City Amsterdam, presenting a selection of new lighting sculptures by William Brand. Light, material, form and architecture come together in a setting shared with one of our longstanding worlds: contemporary Dutch design and craftsmanship.

Design rarely exists on its own.

It develops through places, people, materials and conversations. Through the exchange between a designer and a maker, an object and its architecture, an idea and the person who gives it form.

That has been part of Brand van Egmond from the beginning.

For more than 35 years, William Brand has developed his lighting sculptures in Naarden, where drawing, crafting and experimentation happen under one roof. From there, the work has travelled into interiors around the world.

This September, we are bringing that perspective to Amsterdam by joining GLUE, the design route connecting the best design hotspots in town.

What happens when a lighting sculpture becomes something you would want to collect? FRAME recently explored that question, featuring our Bella among a selection of luminaires that move beyond pure function and into art-object territory.

Architect and sculptor William Brand threw caution to the wind – and the image of a necklace suspended in mid-air – to create Bella. The rope-like coil of metal spheres and globe-shaped lights can be turned vertically or horizontally, depending on the space.
