The interest and demand for vintage design has increased in recent years. Especially when it comes to high quality vintage design and furniture. In that market, Etienne Feijns internationally acquired a decent position. A variety of collectors, enthusiasts, designers and museums, domestically and abroad have already found their way to Roosendaal. This company is the result of his love for vintage

pieces and excitement he has while looking for the right furniture. MassModernDesign is the extension of Museum quality gallery MidMod-Design which is founded by Etienne Feijns in 2008. With our showroom where the two companies come together, we hope to inspire and please those who love quality furniture and exquisite interiors. Here at MassModernDesign we find quality very important. When the furniture comes in we fully check the structure, restore where needed in our own atelier, clean, upholster or refinish it when needed. We have an extremely high quality standard to our furniture as we think the quality furniture we sell deserves the right treatment. So we only work with the best craftsman’s and materials, personally selected by Etienne Feijns with years of experience in the vintage business.

LIGHT, TEXTURE & PURE ITALIAN ELEGANCE ✨

A rare set of Massimo Vignelli 259/2 wall lights, designed for Arteluce in 1964.

A striking expression of Italian modernism, the 259/2 combines a clean architectural aluminium structure with a cascading curtain of fine pearl-white textile threads. The contrast is what makes this design so powerful: rigid geometry meets softness and movement, transforming the light into an almost sculptural presence on the wall.

Part of Vignelli’s modular lighting series for Arteluce, the large double version is particularly impressive and rarely seen. We currently have six examples available, all preserved in fully original condition with their original Arteluce labels still present. The fringes have been carefully cleaned while retaining the authenticity of these remarkable 1960s pieces.

An exceptional and highly decorative design by one of the great masters of 20th-century Italian design.

BLUE, BOLD & BEAUTIFULLY UNUSUAL. 💙

An extraordinary curved blue glass wall mirror, attributed to Ettore Sottsass Jr. and manufactured by Santambrogio e De Berti, Italy, circa 1958.

Created from a single sweeping piece of curved blue glass, the mirror is punctuated by dozens of delicate moon-eye shaped incisions, individually silvered from behind to form a shimmering constellation around the off-centre circular mirror. A technically complex detail that gives the piece an almost jewel-like presence.

The attribution to Sottsass has never been officially confirmed, yet the timing, experimental use of glass and sculptural language strongly connect it to the period in which Sottsass collaborated with Santambrogio e De Berti.

Finished with beautifully patinated brass mounts, this is much more than a mirror. It sits somewhere between functional design, sculpture and optical art, and is an exceptionally rare expression of post-war Italian modernism.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us over the past days. It was wonderful to see so many familiar and new faces and to share the exhibition with you.

For those who didn’t make it yet, there are still 4 weeks to visit the group show. We look forward to welcoming you in Knokke and experiencing the dialogue between art, furniture and architecture in person.

Tonight, during Nacht van ’t Zoute, we officially open the doors to our new group exhibition in Knokke.

Bringing together the work of Charlotte Perriand, Boy & Erik Stappaerts, Anna Bonheur and Anton Heyboer, the exhibition explores the dialogue between art, furniture, colour and form. Different generations and disciplines meet in one space, creating unexpected connections between collectible design and contemporary and post-war art.

A true reflection of what our Knokke gallery stands for: where art meets furniture.

Where craftsmanship meets effortless comfort.

This exceptional pair of Veranda lounge chairs, designed by Jorge Zalszupin for L’Atelier in 1959, perfectly embodies the balance between sculptural form, craftsmanship, and comfort that defines his work. Inspired by classic campaign chairs yet unmistakably Brazilian, the design combines a beautifully detailed hardwood frame with thick cognac leather that has developed a rich, authentic patina over decades.

The suspended leather backrest naturally adapts to the sitter, while the elegant brass details and hand-stitched construction reveal the meticulous craftsmanship behind every element. Preserved in remarkable original condition, these chairs are increasingly difficult to find, especially as a matching pair.

A timeless design that feels as relevant today as it did over sixty years ago.

Rare restaurant provenance. One of Jean Prouvé’s most iconic designs in an unusual and vibrant original red finish.

Originally used in a restaurant in northern France, this rare Model 512 Compas table formed part of a colorful interior where red, green and blue frames created a striking architectural rhythm. A wonderful reminder that Prouvé’s functional designs were not only made for schools and offices, but also for lively social spaces.

Still retaining its original patina, the honest wear of decades of use only adds to its character. A beautiful example where engineering, color and history come together in one timeless design.

What happens behind the scenes at Mass Modern Design?

July was a month of heat ☀️ and constant movement. New acquisitions arrived almost daily, restoration work continued in our workshops, photography sessions filled the studio, and remarkable pieces found their way to collectors across the world.

From carefully reupholstering rare Italian chairs and preparing iconic lighting for its next home to discovering forgotten treasures and welcoming visitors to our gallery, every day brought something different. Alongside the finished pieces, there were countless moments that usually remain unseen: packing, researching, documenting, restoring, and refining every detail before a piece leaves our hands.

These are the moments that define what we do. Not just buying and selling design, but preserving its history and ensuring every object is ready for another lifetime.

One of the last survivors of the original Raadhuis Budel interior.

Designed by Jan de Jong in 1967, this remarkable cabinet embodies the quiet power of the Bossche School. Built according to Dom Hans van der Laan’s Plastic Number, every proportion, copper nail and wooden detail serves a purpose.

When the town hall was renovated in 1997, most of the original furnishings disappeared forever. A handful of local residents rescued several pieces, allowing masterpieces like this to survive.

Early Italian elegance at its finest. This rare Model 331 floor lamp, designed by Giuseppe Ostuni for Oluce in 1950, perfectly captures the pioneering spirit of post-war Italian lighting. Its sculptural brass stem, solid marble base and beautifully aged original shade create a timeless balance between function and form.

With adjustable joints at both the base and the shade, the lamp effortlessly transforms from reading light to uplight or ambient illumination. A refined, highly collectible design that only becomes more beautiful with the authentic patina of time.
