TOYS FOR BOYS — OPENING TODAY.

As the Zoute Rally kicks off today in Knokke, we open our new exhibition Toys for Boys, specially curated for this iconic week on the Belgian coast.

Discover the remarkable wooden toys of ADO by Ko Verzuu, presented alongside geometric art by Bob Bonies and iconic furniture by Gerrit Rietveld. A playful dialogue between toys, art and design, connected through colour, abstraction and Dutch modernism.

MMD MONTHLY • SEPTEMBER 2026

September was all about pieces coming and going, and preparing for what comes next.

New acquisitions arrived, while others left the showroom for their new homes. In between, our workshops kept moving: restoring, upholstering, documenting, photographing and getting new entries ready for the collection. The usual MMD rhythm of new entries and old exits.

A lot of our time this month went into preparations for TOYS FOR BOYS, our next exhibition in Knokke. Rietveld, ADO toys by Ko Verzuu, Bob Bonies and more slowly came together around colour, geometry and the spirit of De Stijl, just in time for the Zoute Grand Prix.

And while Knokke is almost ready, PAN Amsterdam is already getting closer. Behind the scenes, the first preparations have started for our presentation there too.

Trucks in, trucks out. Pieces discovered, restored, sold and replaced by new finds. Here is September as we saw it.

STIL. STERK. NU.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending the opening of the new exhibition at Museum EICAS in Deventer.

The exhibition brings together six contemporary artists whose work connects in different ways to the ideas and legacy of the Dutch Nul and international ZERO movements: material, repetition, monochromy, emptiness and the process of making itself.

We are especially pleased to see the entire basement of the museum dedicated to the work of Anna Bonheur. Bonheur has long held an important place within the collection of MassModernDesign, with his work continuously represented at our Knokke gallery.

For STIL. STERK. NU., many of the works in this extensive presentation have been loaned from the MMD Knokke collection. Seeing them brought together in a museum setting offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the breadth and development of Bonheur’s distinctive practice.

His work is constantly evolving. Materials are assembled, deconstructed and rebuilt, with existing works sometimes becoming the starting point for something entirely new. The resulting pieces have a raw, almost architectural presence, balancing fragility, materiality and transformation.

We are proud to contribute to this exhibition and delighted to see an artist who has become such an important part of our collection presented on this scale.

From play to art and design.

Opening during Knokke Het Zoute’s celebrated rally weekend, TOYS FOR BOYS brings a playful perspective to our gallery. Ko Verzuu’s iconic wooden toys for ADO take centre stage alongside furniture by Gerrit Rietveld and artworks by Bob Bonies, among others.

An encounter between toys, architecture, art and design, exploring the bold colours and geometry associated with De Stijl.

MMD MONTHLY • AUGUST 2026

Better late than never. August disappeared before we knew it.

A month filled with exactly what happens behind the scenes at Mass Modern Design: trucks arriving and leaving, new acquisitions coming in, pieces being packed for collectors around the world, and our workshops running at full speed.

Somewhere between all that movement, remarkable pieces continued to pass through our hands. Brazilian furniture, rare Italian design, art waiting to be documented, rows of chairs being restored and reupholstered, and countless objects moving from storage to workshop, photography studio and eventually to their next home.

August also took us outside the warehouse, with deliveries, sourcing trips and the opening of our new exhibition in Knokke. It is easy to show only the finished result, but most of what we do happens long before a piece reaches the gallery floor.

A little late, but here is August as we saw it.

Italian glamour at its finest. An exceptional bar cabinet designed by Vittorio Dassi and manufactured by La Permanente Mobili Cantù, Italy, circa 1950. Sculptural hardwood construction with slatted doors, marble top and refined brass details. Opening the cabinet reveals its spectacular mirrored and illuminated interior with glass shelving and contrasting yellow-green laminate. A sophisticated combination of craftsmanship, architecture and functionality.

Miami Architecture Part 3. Continuing our architectural walk through Miami, we arrived at one of the city’s most radical statements of contemporary urban design: 1111 Lincoln Road.

Designed by Herzog & de Meuron and completed in 2010, the building is officially a parking garage, yet it was conceived as much more than infrastructure. Stacked concrete slabs, dramatically varied ceiling heights, and exposed structural elements transform a utilitarian program into an open, monumental framework. Retail spaces occupy the ground floor, while upper levels host events, fashion shows, and public gatherings, blurring the line between private development and civic space.

Positioned at the gateway of Lincoln Road, 1111 Lincoln Road has become a defining landmark of Miami Beach’s contemporary identity. It reflects a city willing to rethink function, scale, and public life, where even a parking structure can become an architectural destination.

For us this is one of the most impressice architectural highlights we saw in Miami and one we will have at top of our mind for a long time.

LIGHT, TEXTURE & PURE ITALIAN ELEGANCE ✨

A rare set of Massimo Vignelli 259/2 wall lights, designed for Arteluce in 1964.

A striking expression of Italian modernism, the 259/2 combines a clean architectural aluminium structure with a cascading curtain of fine pearl-white textile threads. The contrast is what makes this design so powerful: rigid geometry meets softness and movement, transforming the light into an almost sculptural presence on the wall.

Part of Vignelli’s modular lighting series for Arteluce, the large double version is particularly impressive and rarely seen. We currently have six examples available, all preserved in fully original condition with their original Arteluce labels still present. The fringes have been carefully cleaned while retaining the authenticity of these remarkable 1960s pieces.

An exceptional and highly decorative design by one of the great masters of 20th-century Italian design.
