Ninarosaqua

Ninarosaqua I want to encourage female empowerment in the water, desexualise surfing, and show we are all equal in the water – male, female, or anything in between.

More and more restrictions are being put on catcalling on the streets of The Netherlands, but what about the silent catcalling during the surf? The subtle-but-not-so-subtle ways guys check out your ass when you paddle out and overcare for avoiding a nip slip. Why is surfing so sexualised? Are these really compliments (as guys would call them when you would subtly-not-so-subtly inquire) or are we w

omen in a male-dominated surf world? The opposite is also not really what we look for in a surf session: guys dropping into our waves because we’re so-called weaker paddlers or for whatever invalid reason. Is that really how the line-up and priority work or are we women in a male-dominated surf world? Female empowerment in the water. That is what we stand for. We deserve waves are much as men do and should not be sexualised or taken advantage of because we are unconfident. But there is more. We connect surfing with art. The reason lies in my own insecurity, resulting in the imposter syndrome. I have always loved drawing and creativity, as you can read in my personal creativity story and surfing journey on embodied creativity. But I never felt confident enough to put my art out there in the world, for commercial or portfolio purposes. And here’s the connection: it is for the exact same reason as I struggle to call out men who show intolerant behaviour in the surf, namely insecurity, not feeling enough, and being afraid that people find out I am an imposter. That I am actually a sh*t surfer (which I kind of am if 58 eyes are pointed at me the moment I finally claimed my spot in the line-up) and a fake artist. So go catch that wave, babes! Go catch the wave you are entitled to and surf your ass off. It’s the only way to improve. Go catch that wave that symbolises the goal that you really want to achieve. Forget the risk and take the fall yet paddle as if you’re chased by a white shark. Get out of your comfort zone and dare to be yourself. Go after the things that inspire you, energise you, and motivate you to get that f**king leash on and paddle out on those waves. Go catch that wave. You deserve it and you can do it.

I’ve been a bit quiet here (with posts) so to make it up, a really cool announcement:
🌱 The world’s first plastic-free sports sock is here and I’ve put them to the test!

If you’ve been here for a while, you know movement, sustainability and feeling good in your own body are recurring themes in my life. So when told me they’d finally cracked something the sportswear world has been trying (and failing) to do for decades, I was instantly curious.

A sock with stretch… without plastic? No nylon, no elastane, no hidden blends?

Turns out: yes. After three years of development and more than fifty prototypes, Boldwill and Forebel launched the first truly plastic-free sports sock, made from GOTS-certified organic cotton and natural rubber, produced in a highly experienced factory in Turkey.

I’ve been wearing Boldwill for years, for everything from boxing and yoga to hiking, barre, pilates and ballet. The clothes last, they feel good and they keep up with my very mixed training routine. So yes, the bar was high.

And the socks?

They’re excellent. Exactly what I want from sportswear: simple, comfortable and better for the planet.

Another reason I love this launch: every purchase supports SockbySock, a Dutch NGO tackling overproduction in the textile industry and donating rescued socks to charities. So you’re not just buying a pair, you’re backing two Dutch organisations working towards a cleaner, fairer system.

And because I know many of you love a little treat:

Use NINAROSA10 for 10% off the entire Boldwill collection, including the new socks.
Perfect for yourself, or as a gift for someone who will inevitably promise to “start training again in January”.

I’ve already gifted a pair to my brother and yes… he’s fully converted.

🧦 Order your socks (or their other favourites) via Boldwill and let me know what you think!

PS this shoot was SO much fun!

‼ Calling all Dutchies to donate for all the natural disasters happening in Sri Lanka. Find the open Tikkie in my bio.

The storm and resulting disasters have caused:
🪦 479 deaths, most in Kandy
😢 350 people remain missing
😔 Over 1.6 million people have been affected
🏚️ Nearly 189,000 have been relocated to 1,347 safety centres
(According to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), as of 4 December)

My accommodation has a cash collection point that goes directly to the people and the organisations helping them. Please consider a small donations, anything can help!

It feels strange to be here in the sunny south of Sri Lanka, wondering what bikini to wear, while there is so much going on just a few hours up north from here. I want to do something.

If you want to see the horrible flooding houses etc. you can go look them up. I prefered to share an image that highlights the contrast.

I think the worst thing I (and other tourists) can do is to leave the country and not spend any money. I was going to go to Ella and Kandy tomorrow but with the expected rain, I have decided to stay in the safe coast for a bit longer. I will keep partially my accommodation reservations to decrease the financial suffering. But I can’t do it alone.

Donate anything you can miss via the link in bio. Even if it’s €1,-. If all my followers would donate just €1,- that’d be €1.750,- and that can go a long way in delivering:
🍞 Essential food supplies for displaced families
💧 Clean water and sanitary, to prevent diseases
⛑️ Emergency medical aid for the injured and vulnerable
🏠 Temporary shelter and relief kits for those who lost everything

Find link in bio! Many thanks x

I believe that a core message and its value are greatly underestimated. If you do choose to formulate this, doors will open for you - perhaps to other planets or universes. 🚪
Three reasons why and how to do this:

1️⃣🧜🏽‍♀️ People engage with you for who you are (your why instead of your what)

You are a creative person with a lot of passion, ambition, energy and potential. People want to work with YOU for who you are. Maybe they always feel understood by you or always heard. And if all goes well, they can identify with your mission and what you want to achieve with your work.

So think carefully about what you actually want to say and why you started your work. Not why you chose your study but why you chose this specific niche and services as a freelancer. What feeling emerges? What's underneath?

2 ️⃣🎯 It forces you to go back to the basics of your existence as an entrepreneur

If you start thinking about what you actually do and why you do it, you will come to the essence of entrepreneurship and you as a person. You delete everything that doesn't matter: services that you don't really want to do anymore, customers and cases that you didn't get any energy from and bulls**t that is now in your brand story.

What comes out is gold. It's about what makes you unique and what will really spark your fire. Not a boring description of what you do, but a very honest story about how you will improve the world.

3️⃣🌾 You can use the message as the basis of your communication (literally)
Your core message is the core of your communication. You can literally put it on your website or in your LinkedIn bio or focus it on a specific goal. For example, for presenting your services, as an introduction to a proposal for a client or for your elevator pitch.

Will you share your new core message with me? And also comment / DM if you can't figure it out, I'll help you with love. ❤️

I've always loved souvenirs but this was kind of the crown on my souvenir addiction: a tattoo reminding me of my very first studying abroad experience. 💉 I often get asked for the meaning behind this tattoo, which is not just one.

🇦🇺 First and foremostly, it's a symbol of Australia, where I did my internship in the 3rd year of my bachelor. So it functions as a souvenir for this amazing experience. Months where I first lived by myself, gained my first work experience, and grown so much as a person.

What I love about the concept of a boomerang is that it always comes back. 🪃 The effort you put into something will eventually come back in the shape of something even more beautiful. Same applies for people or things you love. Things or actions don't get lost or are wasted, they come back.

Looking more closely, you can see there's a few little elements. The circles with dots represent communities where tribes come together and connect. 🪶 The animals, of course, represent my love for animals and nature. 🦘

See - creativity goes beyond just sketches and drawing. It's in the small things. What's the breakdown of your tattoo meaning? 👀

Bye, monthly stable income of a comfortable level. Last year I canceled the collaboration with my biggest clients, purely because I felt that this was not in line with my mission - even though I didn't have this mission completely clear. And I have not regretted that for a second, even though these were dynamic times and I found it terrifying. How is that possible?

I felt that...
🪫 I had less and less energy for the projects
🧐 I became increasingly jealous of coaches, copywriters, marketers or other creatives who did work with clients and projects that suited me completely
🫦 I could achieve, achieve and be more, with less effort. But not here and not this way
❤️‍🩹 I did not have an affinity with the company as I would like it to or as I saw it in the other people within the company

I was selling myself short with these clients and these projects. They gave me a sense of false security, but I kept wondering...
💎 "Is this it?"
💎 "This comfort zone is ok, but I want more. Where do I start?"
💎 "Working for cool clients, can I do that?"

Canceling stable projects because they don't feel good anymore hurts, but it's necessary to grow. The world desperately needs creative people like you.

The months that followed were not the easiest. They brought a lot of doubt and instability. Because I wanted it all myself and it all had to be perfect.

🥰 But I'm so glad I took that step and that I can now get started with clients that I can really help. It took me a while to realize that I had locked myself in and wasted my time on a project and company that didn't quite fit me. Not fair to them, but not fair to me either.

Take responsibility and take those steps to attract your dream customers. It's possible. It has to. And no one else is going to do it for you.

Ready? DM. 💌

😤 And I missed another wave - nosedive. Tried the next one. S**t, also missed it - too close to the peak. Okay, maybe the next one. Aaarrghhh, too fat, maybe if I keep paddling... no. Useless. What a s**tty session. 😩

I walked out of the water, defeated and sad. 😢 I felt like I was a failure as I couldn't even catch a wave on a longboard after all those years of surfing. Why did I suck at this so much? 😭

I smacked my board on the beach and stared at the evil ocean that didn't want to give me a good wave to surf. 😤 Hearing the calming sound of the waves, I started to breathe a bit slower. I felt my nerve system calming down and my anger slipping away, as being taken away by the soft waves. 🌊

Maybe this wasn't my best session in terms of catching waves or fun. Maybe it wasn't my best session ever. But did I always have to be? 🤷🏽‍♀️

I learnt something. I went out and got some exercise. I got to study other people. I saw a seal. 🦭 I smiled at other surfing girls that were having the time of their lives, without jealousy. 🥰 So the session wasn't so bad after all - and why would it even have to be?

Like in life, it's the s**tty sessions that teach us the best lessons. 💪🏽 But having a s**tty session in general can be a lesson: not every session can be the best one ever. Not every project you do, meal you eat, holiday you have 🌴, class you follow, or just day lived can be the best one ever. It doesn't have to be, okay is enough sometimes. It's ups and downs and there's always some beauty in it. ⛰

What's the beauty of your last 's**tty session'? ✨

📆 New Instagram live on May 18th 8pm with a suuuuuuper inspirational leader... business muse Anne Hospers! 🧚🏽‍♀️

Creativity in a business context, being a visionair, and believing in yourself. These are topics I constantly post but for which I get so much inspiration from Anne Hospers. I don't know how she does it but she always manages to find the perfect balance between being personal and professional, which makes her the perfect person to host this Insta live with. ⚡️

Anne has worked in different industries - from retail to hospitality and from magazine publishing to education. These days, she's a coach, consultant, writer, workshop host, public speaker, and creative director. Trust me if I say she has the magic to ask the right questions at the right time and breathes creativity. She mostly works with women and is a great supporter of female empowerment. 🪄

She's been on a journey, a transformational one. 🛣 We've been texting a lot about strategies, positioning, and branding - but also about imposter syndrome, believing in yourself, and following your dreams. She will share her insights with us on this Monday eve with the goal to inspire and motivate. 🙌🏽

Be there if you want the opportunity to ask questions straight away: Thursday 18th May 8pm Dutch time. It'll be posted to my feed as well if you can't attend but you want to be there for this one, pinky promise. 🤙🏽

I'm a coach. There, I said it. And it took A LOTTTT of effort because I have more aversion to the word "coach" than to computer updates that appear right before an important deadline with no cancel option or Comic Sans in professional documents.

I think there are a lot of bad coaches. 👎🏽
😤 People who sell hot air and actually offer no value.
🏜 The revenue model of which is secretly pyramid marketing and where the investment is never earned back.
💫 Gratefully taking advantage of people's uncertainty and confusion, by smearing them s**t that they could easily have come up with themselves.
😒 Who are completely unaware of all the psychological effects that selfish sales can cause.

But when I go back to my core values, helpfulness, caring, creativity, enthusiasm, passion and decisiveness often come back. I love helping people, listening really carefully and getting to the core of their message together. I secretly already did that within my marketing trajectories and as a teacher, but I didn't dare to label myself as a coach because of all those negative associations. 🎯

I'm going to prove that coaching can be done differently. No advice reports that disappear on the shelf or texts that you don't understand. No hot air, but marketing advice and accountability until we have reached the goals that we have agreed together. 💪🏽

And beyond. Because I want my customers to be able to do it without me, so I make sure that they can then work independently to continue to attract customers that give them butterflies in their stomach.

The Chamber of Commerce name change has been implemented and my website has been updated. There's no way back. And I'm all hyped. 😱

Do you feel a click and do you feel that I can be the coach who is not a scammer? Let's talk. DM me.

🇮🇩 Uluwatu, Bali, Indonesia, April 2022
The foam of the waves touched my perfectly pedicured feet. Not in a gentle or light way, rather rough and wild – exactly as Uluwatu was described to me. I hesitated since I was with my 9’2 custom-made board that I did not want to ruin after I had only owned it for 5 weeks. 🙃 He looked at me with a smile that held a balance between friendly and stoked. I mean, of course he did – he had surfed almost daily for 16 years now.

He was here today to take my Uluwatu virginity, as we had discussed via WhatsApp for 2 weeks now, and he appeared to be more excited about it than I was. “Just follow that guy and first go left,” he said, pointing at a surfer that was evidently more experienced than me, “and then we will paddle around the impact zone. You can do it.” And with that, he jumped on his board and paddled away from me, leaving me no other choice than to follow him. 🐣

The paddling around was lots easier than it appeared – which was a first in surfing, something turning out easier than it looks. He stayed close to me, making sure I did not accidentally drop into people – as most people here can paddle so fast, you won’t even see them coming. 🚀

I paddled for my life, making sure to not look down but to the left, where I was going ( ), and to bend my back knee. I was riding the rails when I tried my first turn – which is not easy on a longboard. But I managed. 🥳 I cannot put the happiness into words when I try to describe my first Ulus ride, all the way to the channel on the left, close to the cave where we had entered.

More waves followed, not all perfectly ridden but all surfed with an endless amount of passion. ❤️‍🔥 My waves were complemented with encouraging yells and exclaims of joy, both from him and me. It was there and then that I realised how much I loved surfing and how addicted I was to it. 🏄🏽‍♀️

You don't have to do it alone. It's one of the key lessons that I learnt over the past few months - one that sounds SO simple but was very difficult for me. And Renee played an important role into this realisation.

It's okay to ask for help, it's not a weakness. Whether it be...
🥙 when preparing foods for a party
😢 when you need a shoulder to cry on
👷🏼‍♀️ when renovating your house
🥵 when you are working on a work project that's a lot more work than it seemed
🏄🏽‍♀️ when you are carrying your surf board to the beach
🤗 when you just don't know what's wrong but could use someone to hug and support you
❤️‍🩹 when you aren't sure about your skate skills anymore

Renee helps me, I help her. She made me realise that things are a lot easier when you do them together and people don't mind as much as you'd think. 💝

And when they're a real friend, they might even enjoy it. Maybe not when cleaning up a mess in your house 🧼 but maybe with cooking, teaching surfing, or talking about nothing in particular together.

Thank you Renee, I am so grateful for you in my tribe ❤️

I started working as a freelance design teacher at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam a few weeks ago. I've loved it so far and am super excited for the upcoming weeks.
Is this the end of Ninarosaqua or Ninarosa Juffermans Coaching & Content? Haha no, you are far from getting rid of me. Because I'm on my way to building an empire. 👸🏽

I have made it my life's mission to let as many creative freelancers as possible get (healthily) high from job satisfaction by purpose-driven clients. I wish you this ephoric feeling of joy, passion, appreciation, energy and meaning that I experience with this cool new project. 😍

🤙🏽 And I will continue with Ninarosaqua as well but I will take my time to think about the focus. I've shifted from just custom designs/drawings to post cards, posters, collabs, murals, and Insta Live's. But it's too much for me to grow two brands AND do all these new coaching projects at the same time.

What this means: I won't actively start new collabs, drawing collections, print on demand outputs, or other marketing activities. I will resume my normal collabs, commissioned drawings, and cool Instagram Live's. And I will share more about creative entrepreneurship, finding energygiving and purposedriven clients, and sustainability. 🫧

👀 I know there's quite some inspirational entrepreneurs and freelancers in my follower list. I see you and I hear you! Do you feel you are ready to attract energizing customers and really take steps with your marketing, branding, communication and copy? Let's connect.
