Today, the egg takes centre stage. 🥚

World Egg Day is a celebration of a food that plays an important role on tables across the world.
It is also a moment to recognise the farmers, specialists, partners and organisations whose daily work supports egg production and access to nutritious food.

At HATO, this day holds special meaning. Through our support for the World Egg Organisation and our involvement in poultry projects in Honduras, Africa and Asia, we are proud to contribute to initiatives that help make eggs accessible to communities where reliable sources of protein are not always available.

Today, we celebrate the egg, the people behind it and the positive role our industry can play.
Happy World Egg Day from everyone at HATO!

There is a lot packed inside an egg. 🥚

Eggs provide high-quality protein and contain nutrients such as choline, vitamin D, lutein and zeaxanthin.

These nutrients each play their own role in the body, giving us plenty to talk about during World Egg Week.

Swipe to discover seven reasons why eggs are so essential.

During our conversation with Bruce Dooyema, Chairman of the International Egg Foundation, we discussed the First 1,000 Days of Life programme in Honduras. Families receive eggs alongside practical nutrition guidance during pregnancy and the early years of a child’s life.

The programme brings local egg production, healthcare and nutrition education together in the Agalta Valley. HATO is proud to contribute to the wider project alongside the organisations supporting these communities

As World Egg Day approaches on 9 October 2026, this story is a reminder of the role eggs can play in family nutrition and food security.

🥚 Celebrating World Egg Week!

At HATO, we are proud supporters of the World Egg Organisation and its efforts to promote the nutritional value of eggs and their positive impact on people around the world. This year's celebration is especially meaningful as World Egg Day marks its 30th anniversary.

We support for years its initiatives that encourage greater awareness of eggs as an accessible and nutritious source of high-quality protein. Through campaigns such as One-egg-a-day, the global egg community promotes the ambition of making eggs a regular part of healthy diets worldwide.

We encourage everyone to visit the World Egg Organisation website and explore the resources available to help promote the nutritional benefits of eggs in our local communities.

Throughout this week, we'll be sharing interesting egg-related facts, insights, and content to celebrate the remarkable role eggs play in nutrition, food security, and everyday life.

Last week we welcomed Phil Gobardhan and Thijs Falger from VDL, together with Evelyn Medina from Novagri in Chile, to the HATO headquarters in the Netherlands.

Nikki Verheijden and Barbara IJzerman guided them through the process behind our HPA light plans.

Cristabel Huerta hosted a Precision Poultry Lighting session, including the HATO VR experience, while Joep Obers provided technical product training. The visit concluded with a tour through our departments and production facilities.

The programme gave our partners a closer look at how lighting influences bird vision, welfare, system use and farm performance across different poultry applications and housing systems.

Thank you, Phil, Thijs and Evelyn, for visiting HATO and for the valuable exchange throughout the day.

In this video, we look at the connection between barn lighting, animal comfort and everyday behaviour.

A well-planned light schedule gives livestock useful cues for feeding, sleeping and activity. Clear visibility also helps animals move confidently through their surroundings, which can limit unsafe situations and support calm barn conditions.

Reliable lighting creates structure throughout the day. This structure can help animals settle into familiar routines while supporting welfare and daily farm management.
