After being busy with rebuilding our house for the last 1,5 year we finally had time to work on this beautiful 1916 National model 442. We took this cash register completely apart to polish each part to a shiny gold finish. The mechanics work like new and the drawer opens with a loud, nostalgic ring of the bell.

The oak drawer cabinet has been sanded by hand and spraypainted with 3 layers of 2k clearcoat.

It has been a fun restoration project and we're very pleased with the endresult. In car-terms this would be a Neckbreaker or a Chick-magnet!

This machine was a fun project! We restored it and redesigned it to be a Minibar with Saloon theme. If you look at pictures of old, wild west saloons these are the cash registers that you will often see on the counters of these saloons. The mechanical part of this machine was broken so it was taken out. The inside has been made from oak and now has room for several (Whiskey) bottles and glasses.

This cash register was made in 1906. Contrary to most cash registers from this era this model was made of cast iron. Other machines were mostly made of bronze.

Yesterday we finished restoring this beautifull 1909 National cash register. The contrast between the dull black and the shiny, polished bronze highlights the beauty of these old machines.
The machine has been profesionally polished, the wooden base was spray painted with a clearcoat and all the glass was renewed. The keys (buttons) are original and were in a too good shape to be changed out for new ones.

Last weeks we worked on this cutaway version of a model 400 National cash register. This working model shows the amazing technique inside a National cash register. Unbelievable how this machine was designed and made over a hundred years ago.

We found this 1902 model 172 a few years ago. It's one of the few National cash registers that was made of cast iron (instead of bronze). It was originally nickle plated to prevent it from rusting. Since the nickle had some wear when we got this machine we had to find a solution to prevent it from rusting. We completely took it apart, wire brushed all the parts and spraypainted the cast iron parts with a 2k clearcoat. Through the clearcoat you can still see the areas that have nickle on them and the areas that don't. It shows that this Showpony was a Workhorse in its young years!

Last week we picked up this Toledo Berkel Industrial scale...and it's a beast! Weighs up to 125kg and I estimate it's own weight to be +/- the same. It's in great shape, weighs perfect and has a beautifull matt black finish. Nice detail are the original cast iron, spoked wheels.
It has found a nice spot in our workshop where it will be an useable, industrial eyecatcher (to weigh cash registers/parts/packages before shipping).

Recently we picked up this nice coin operated Berkel scale. These scales used to stand in public areas so people could weigh themselves. This particuler scale was made for the French or Belgium market. The scale was activated by inserting 1 Franc.

It has been some time since our last restoration. Finally we had time to finish another beauty. This machine was made in 1910 but now it's shining like a new one again!

It has been a while since our last post on Facebook. All the time we were working on this project; a 1911, 4-drawer National cash register. Nice thing about these multi drawer machines is that each drawer has its own bellsound, so it almost sounds like an organ when the drawers are being opened.
We took all the plating off the machine and had it professionally polished. Summer is gone but this beauty is still shining!
