Meet the Artist "Ujay Bajracharya"

A traditional Paubha artist and Faculty Head at Aksheswar Traditional Buddhist Art College, Ujay Bajracharya has exhibited his work across more than 20 countries and received numerous national honors. His practice reflects both mastery and dedication to the continuity of Paubha painting.

Alongside his artistic work, he contributes as a lecturer and author, sharing his knowledge through institutions and publications. His recognition includes the “Best Artist of the Year 2017” award, presented by the President of Nepal.

A Patan-based artist and recent graduate in traditional Buddhist art, Swarnim Shakya’s practice is grounded in philosophy and cultural narratives. Working with mediums such as poster colors, acrylic, and pencil, he explores a balance between devotion and experimentation.

Beginning his journey in 1986 under the guidance of Mukti Singh Thapa, a contemporary Thanka painter, he has become one of the prominent practitioners of traditional Paubha painting in Nepal. His work reflects a deep dedication to preserving the discipline and spiritual essence of the tradition.

Over the years, he has produced numerous works across national and international platforms, creating Paubha paintings from diverse religious contexts while maintaining the integrity of traditional practices.

Meet the Artist "Sudarshan Suwal"
Trained from the age of twelve under his grandfather, a master of Newari Buddhist painting, Sudarshan’s practice is deeply rooted in lineage, discipline, and spiritual learning. His training extended beyond technique, encompassing meditation, mantra, visualization, and the preparation of pigments.

Over four decades, he has created hundreds of thangkas of varying scale and complexity, alongside significant mural works, including paintings at Vasundhara Temple in Swayambhu and for the film Little Buddha. His work reflects a lifelong dedication to tradition, devotion, and mastery.

Born in Varanasi, Seema Sharma is an accomplished artist and scholar with a Ph.D. in History of Art. With participation in over 70 national and international exhibitions, her practice reflects a deep engagement with cultural narratives and visual history.

Her works draw from ancient Nepali sculpture, architecture, rituals, and Hindu and Buddhist mythologies, reinterpreted through free association. Alongside her artistic journey, she serves as an Associate Professor at Tribhuvan University, contributing to both practice and pedagogy.
