Repa Retreat is a quiet, high-altitude sanctuary dedicated to meditation, healing, and spiritual practice. It also operates as a non-profit initiative, with surplus revenue supporting local community programs and the charitable projects of H. E. Chogyal Rinpoche
To accommodate international students and guests, Phase 1 of the proposed Milarepa Residential Building involves the construction of single-storey residential units designed for efficiency, sustainability, and resilience. This phase includes eight residential buildings comprising six fourplex units (24 rooms) and two duplex units (4 rooms), totaling 28 rooms. Each room is designed with an attached toilet, bathroom, and veranda, following detailed architectural and engineering specifications.
Key Construction Highlights
1. Bahareque Construction Technology (INBAR Re-engineered System)-The buildings adopt the Bahareque construction method, an ancient and traditional South American building technique, scientifically improved and re-engineered by INBAR (International Network for Bamboo and Rattan).
2. Fast and Efficient Construction-Foundation works and prefabricated wall panel fabrication are carried out simultaneously on-site and in the factory, significantly reducing overall construction time.
3. Lightweight and High-Performance Materials-The structure uses treated pine wood and flattened bamboo, integrated with two inches of rock wool for effective thermal insulation and sound control.
4. Highly Suitable for Sloped and Seismic Terrain-The lightweight structural system is ideal for hillside construction, reducing vulnerability to earthquakes, landslides, and other natural hazards. The buildings can also be dismantled, relocated, or reassembled if required.
5. Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Design-Over 50% of the construction materials are natural and environmentally friendly, helping to minimize the carbon footprint and environmental impact.
6. Cost Flexibility-The construction system allows a wide cost range per square foot, making it adaptable for both affordable housing solutions and high-end residential applications.

१: प्रथम राष्ट्रिय बाँस सम्मेलन (खोटाङ घोषणापत्र)

•यो सम्मेलन खोटाङमा आयोजना गरिएको थियो, जसलाई दिक्तेल रुपाकोट मझुवागढी नगरपालिका, वन अनुसन्धान तथा तालिम केन्द्र (बबरमहल), कोशी प्रदेशको वन तथा वातावरण मन्त्रालय र ग्रिन बाँस क्रिएसन मिलेर आयोजना गरेका थिए।

•तीन दिने उक्त कार्यक्रमले ३५ बुँदे 'खोटाङ घोषणापत्र' जारी गर्‍यो। घोषणापत्रमा दिक्तेलमा बाँस अनुसन्धान केन्द्र स्थापना गर्ने, फाल्गुन १५ लाई राष्ट्रिय बाँस सचेतना दिवसको रूपमा मनाउने र हरेक तीन वर्षमा सम्मेलन आयोजना गर्ने जस्ता मुख्य मागहरू समावेश थिए।

२: कमेरोले नास्ट इनोभेटिभ क्याफे निर्माण गर्‍यो

•कमेरो ले उपचार गरिएको इन्जिनियरिङ बाँस र खर जस्ता प्राकृतिक सामग्रीहरू प्रयोग गरेर नास्ट (NAST) इनोभेटिभ क्याफे निर्माण गर्ने परियोजना जित्यो।

•यसले सरकारी कार्यालय परिसरमा उपचार गरिएका इन्जिनियरिङ बाँस संरचनाहरूको व्यवहारिकता सफलतापूर्वक प्रदर्शन गर्‍यो, जसले बाँसलाई अन्य निर्माण सामग्रीले वातावरणमा पुर्‍याउने नकारात्मक असर कम गर्नका लागि दिगो निर्माण सामग्रीको रूपमा प्रयोग गर्न सकिन्छ भनी प्रमाणित गर्‍यो।

३: मेयर भट्टराईको सत्याग्रह

•खोटाङको दिक्तेल रुपाकोट मझुवागढी नगरपालिकाका मेयर तीर्थराज भट्टराईले काठमाडौंको माइतीघर मण्डलामा सत्याग्रह (शान्तिपूर्ण विरोध) गरे।

•उहाँको माग समग्र बाँस निर्माणको प्रवर्द्धन र मान्यताका लागि नीतिगत व्यवस्था गर्नु थियो।

४: मन्त्री महावीर पुनद्वारा नास्टको अवलोकन

•नेपालका शिक्षा, विज्ञान तथा प्रविधि मन्त्री महावीर पुनले नास्ट परिसर र भर्खरै निर्माण गरिएको नास्ट इनोभेटिभ क्याफेको अवलोकन गर्नुभयो।

५ (आज): निर्देशिका स्वीकृत – एक ऐतिहासिक दिन!

•मन्त्री कुलमान घिसिङ (ऊर्जा, जलस्रोत तथा सिँचाइ, भौतिक पूर्वाधार तथा यातायात र सहरी विकास मन्त्री) ले आधिकारिक रूपमा ‘बाँसबाट निर्माण हुने संरचनाको डिजाइनसम्बन्धी मार्गदर्शन, २०८२’ स्वीकृत गर्नुभएको छ।

आज नेपालका बाँस प्रेमीहरू र सरोकारवालाहरूका लागि साँच्चै नै एक ऐतिहासिक दिन हो। यी डिजाइन निर्देशिकाहरूको स्वीकृति वर्षौंको वकालत, नवीनता र शान्तिपूर्ण मागहरूको परिणाम हो। बाँस निर्माणका लागि राम्रा दिनहरू निश्चित रूपमा आउँदैछन्, जसले दिगो र प्राकृतिक निर्माण सामग्रीहरूको लागि प्रमुख सरकारी मान्यता र संस्थागत समर्थनको सङ्केत गर्दछ।

•Event 1: The 1st National Bamboo Conference (Khotang Declaration)

The conference was held in Khotang, organized by Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, Forest Research and Training Center, Babarmahal, Ministry of Forest and Environment, Koshi Province and Green bamboo creation.

The three-day event issued the 35-point 'Khotang Declaration,' which included key demands like establishing a bamboo research center in Diktel, observing Falgun 15 as National Bamboo Awareness Day, and hosting the conference every three years.

Event 2: Kamero Wins and Builds NAST Innovative cafe

Kamero won a project to build the NAST innovative cafe using natural materials like treated engineered bamboo and thatch.

This successfully showcased the viability of treated engineered bamboo structures at a governmental office venue, proving that bamboo can be properly engineered to be a sustainable construction material.

•Event 3: Mayor Bhattarai's Satyagraha

Tirtharaj Bhattarai, the Mayor of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality in Khotang, staged a Satyagraha (peaceful protest) at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu.

His demand was a policy-level arrangement for the overall promotion and recognition of bamboo construction.

•Event 4: Minister Mahabir Pun Visits NAST

The Minister of Education, Science and Technology of Nepal, Mahabir Pun, visited the NAST complex, including the newly built NAST Innovative cafe.

•Event 5 (Today): Guidelines Approved - A Historical Day!

Minister Kulman Ghising (Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development) has officially approved the 'Guidelines for the Design of Structures Made of Bamboo, 2082.'

Today marks a truly historical day for bamboo enthusiasts and stakeholders in Nepal. The approval of these design guidelines is the culmination of years of advocacy, innovation, and peaceful demands. Better days for bamboo construction are definitively on their way, signalling a major governmental recognition and institutional support for sustainable, natural construction materials.
