Uncle John’s Raw Linseed Oil is a 100% natural, cold-pressed oil made from linseed grown on the Canterbury Plains of New Zealand. Traditionally used for generations to nourish and protect timber, it enhances the natural beauty of wood while helping to prevent drying, cracking, and deterioration.

Benefits:-
• Helps wood retain its natural moisture and resist drying and cracking
• Maintains, waterproofs, and protects timber surfaces
• Restores untreated and weathered wood, leaving a beautiful natural finish
• Ideal for cricket bats, hockey sticks, outdoor furniture, chopping boards, and other timber items

Directions for Use:-
Apply with a brush or clean cloth and allow the oil to pe*****te naturally into the wood.
Raw linseed oil is slow drying and may take several weeks to fully cure. Additional coats can be applied once previous coats have dried.
For faster drying, mix 50:50 with turpentine and wipe away any excess oil with a clean cloth after application.

Coverage Guide:-
Coverage will vary depending on the type, age, and condition of the timber.
As a general guide, 1 litre of raw linseed oil will cover approximately 8–12 m² per coat on smooth timber. Porous, weathered, rough-sawn, or untreated timber may absorb more oil and require additional product.

Safety Information:-
• Use outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
• Thoroughly wash all brushes, cloths, and rags after use.
• Oil-soaked rags may present a fire risk if left bundled together. Allow rags to dry flat outdoors before disposal.
• Not suitable for human or animal consumption.

Cricket season is upon us again, and Uncle John's Raw Linseed Oil is a great way to seal and protect your bat before knocking in.

Just apply a light coating of approximately 2-3 teaspoons of oil to the bat using a soft rag and rub into the bat making sure not to over oil in places and leave to dry for 24-48 hours before knocking in, and then you'll be set for the season.

Using wood for raised garden beds and outdoor planters is a common approach, but wood in constant contact with moist soil can begin to rot. So you may be asking is using linseed oil in a garden bed safe?
By sealing the wood with Uncle John's Raw Linseed Oil rather than with a chemical like polyurethane, you may create a safer environment for your plants and those who consume them.

Raw Linseed oil is an effective, natural and nontoxic substance which, when properly applied, significantly prolongs the life span of your garden project. When it is finished and applied properly, linseed oil will not leach into the soil, and if it were to do so by misapplication, it would be harmless to any plant growth, edible or otherwise.

Why Raw Linseed Oil?

When purchasing Linseed Oil, you could be purchasing one of three main manufactured types of Linseed Oil. This depends on how the Linseed Oil is produced, or treated after or during production.

First up, Raw Linseed Oil.
Uncle John's Raw Linseed Oil is of course, Raw Linseed Oil. It is a thick oil that is extracted from 100% flax seeds producing a pure linseed oil. It can take several days to cure between coats, depending on the type of wood, application method, and ambient temperature. Raw Linseed Oil is safe to use on food contact surfaces, like cutting boards. It is also completely safe if it comes into contact with edible plants and their soil.

Next is polymerized, stand, or pure boiled linseed oil.
It is pure, and it has been boiled for several days for thickening, and is normally achieved by manufacturing at home. It can be quite hard to find commercially due to the time it takes to manufacture. It dries faster than raw linseed oil, but it does still need a few days to cure. It is completely safe on food contact surfaces or if it comes into contact with edible plants and their soil.

Finally, there is boiled linseed oil. This is linseed oil that has chemical additives in it, or the oil has been extracted with the use of chemicals to decrease drying time. It is not actually boiled, like traditional Pure Boiled Linseed Oil. Boiled Linseed Oil dries in as little as 12 hours. It contains can contain toxic additives, such as cobalt and petroleum, so cannot be used on food contact surfaces or anywhere it might leach into the soil and contaminate edible plants.
