What's good in September?

Spring is starting to make itself known, and I'm always excited by the change in what's coming into season.

Knowing what fruit and vegetables are in season (and therefore reasonably priced) can get confusing with our supermarkets displaying some produce all year round.

The good news is that in late spring many favourite vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower get really cheap. The bad news is that once the citrus season comes to an end, there is a death of seaonal fruit until strawberries arrive in season mid-November. Note to self: book in a strawberry picking weekend late November with the family.

What to skip?

Summer vegetables like courgettes, aubergines, peppers and tomatoes will start to come back down in price by mid November so maybe go a bit lighter with them until then. Root vegetables such as pumpkin start to get pricer from now on…

In the meantime, here’s a couple of in-season options worth preparing for. I'll pop some recipe recommendations in the comments. Please also share your favourite ways to use asparagus and/or avocados to inspire us too.

What if getting ahead in the kitchen didn’t have to feel like another weekend chore?

On Saturday afternoon, my neighbour Avril came over and together we made ghee, tahini and dukkah—three useful staples to have ready for the week ahead.

While one of them was cooking, we sat down with a cuppa and some gluten-free chocolate brownie I’d made earlier.

It wasn’t a big class or a formal event. It was simply two neighbours cooking, chatting, learning and getting a little ahead together.

Then Avril sent me this lovely message:

“Thanks again for the cooking lesson. You’re a very good teacher. It’s inspired me to bottle some vegetables and activate hazelnuts.”

That last sentence made my day.

Because Kitchen Confidence isn’t just about what you make while we’re together. It’s about leaving inspired and confident enough to keep exploring for yourself.

Perhaps meal prep doesn’t always need to be something we tackle alone. Invite a friend or neighbour, choose two or three things to make, put on some music and turn it into an enjoyable afternoon.

You’ll finish with something delicious, a head start on the week—and perhaps a few new ideas too.

This is also part of the thinking behind my new **Kitchen Reset** offer: personalised, practical help to make your kitchen—and everything that happens within it—feel calmer, easier and more enjoyable.

If your kitchen life could do with a reset, send me a message and I’ll tell you more.

September is my birthday month — so it seemed like a good excuse to give a little birthday push to something I've been creating. 🎂

I've spent a lot of this year thinking about what actually makes everyday food life easier — and often it isn't another recipe.

Sometimes it's being able to see what you've got. Knowing what to keep on hand. Having a freezer that actually helps you. Making shopping and meal decisions easier. Or simply having another pair of eyes look at your kitchen and ask, “What's making this harder than it needs to be?”

That's exactly why I created Kitchen Reset™.

It's personalised, practical help to make your kitchen work better for you — your household, your food, your routines and your stage of life. It's not about having a Pinterest-perfect pantry, and you definitely don't need to own a Thermomix®.

As part of the launch, I'm opening the first 10 Kitchen Reset™ places at the introductory price of $149 for an Express Reset (future price $279) — and my birthday month seemed like the perfect time to give it a proper push.

If your pantry, fridge, freezer or general food life has been quietly driving you nuts — or you simply know it could work better — send me a message. We can have a chat and see whether a Reset would actually be useful.

And because it's my birthday month, I'm particularly keen to get out there, work with some real kitchens and see what transformations we can create. 💛

What’s one of your “wow dishes” you make for guests?
Here’s one of mine I did this week. Love the fact you can use the leftovers to whip up a quick and easy soup.

I'm curious — when you hear the words ‘living well’, what does that mean to you?

How was your weekend?
We did something different last night. We joined our first Pub Choir.
Created and hosted by, Astrid Jorgensen, "Pub Choir is an ENTIRELY improvised, comedy music lesson. The show is a euphoric sensation that transforms a crowd of tipsy strangers into a legendary choir."
Did anyone else go or are you booked in for the NZ part of the tour?
In the space of 90 minutes she had 2100 people, many of whom put their hands up as "the worst singer in Auckland" singing in 3 part harmony. Quite a feat.
Pub Choir is currently touring Australia and NZ and is a fun night out with a bunch of friends. The group of 6 next to me were on their 5th one.
