Here I am, displaying a Monstera variety that is common in Southeast Asia and not so much in NZ. Here, they feed them to cows, while in NZ, these are often found in posh offices and establishments as pricey plant decors. Anyhow, enioy the holidays everyone! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from PoP!

UPDATED: I now have the names of the three (L-R): Echeveria Black Knight, E. Hot Chocolate, E. Black Prince. Credit to succuluntie Tullia from NZ. 😊

We may all have at least one Echeveria Black Prince or Black Knight in our collection, but it seems like there may be more to these two than what we think. Here are some photos of I thought were similar cultivars.

I am sure that the leftmost is a Black Knight, but the next two? I thought they were both Black Princes, but if you notice, their flowers differ. So all succie enthusiasts out there, help me understand. Hehe

Happy Friday everyone! Stay blessed!

Senecio Jacobsenii (Trailing Jade) on a breathable ceramic pot.

This succulent is native to the highlands of Tanzania and Kenya mainly as ground cover. Its leaves stand upright on their stems. Moderate exposure from bright sun or cool temperatures can induce vibrant flushing from lilac to magenta.

Pilea serpyllacea 'Globosa. The name itself is a statement. Well for one, nothing much has been documented about this species. What Google gives you are mostly from experiences of growers who documented and published them on the internet. According to Cuteplantsworld(SG), this plant is from South America. It turns light green when short of light and you know they are happy when they bloom, and it just carries on flowering. Some say it turns red during winter, so I will have to wait a few more months to find out.

Here are some of the tips on how to take care of your PGs based on my experience under Auckland weather:

1. It can thrive on both full direct or indirect sunlight (mine are on an east-facing window sill).
2. The bottom of the leaves show you if they need water already or no. Thinner means more water.
3. When propagating Pilea Globosas, you must cut the branch above a healthy cluster of leaves. Let it callus for 5 to 7 days in the least moist area of the house. When you plant it straight after cutting, it will not thrive and rot.
4. For soil type, I mix 3 parts regular potting mix, 2 part washed coarse sand, and 1 part pumice and it has not failed my Pileas.

PM us if you are keen to add one to your collection. :)

Nope, you are not looking at an alien life-form from Star Trek! This is a variety of Mother of Thousands called Devil's Backbone ( Kalanchoe Daigremontiana). It is also known as Alligator Plant or Mexican Hat Plant.

Those plantlets shoot off like parachutes when blown by the wind, making propagation very easy. Mine has gotten quite etiolated so I will have to behead it at some stage.

Good day folks!
