Pilea serpyllacea 'Globosa. The name itself is a statement. Well for one, nothing much has been documented about this species. What Google gives you are mostly from experiences of growers who documented and published them on the internet. According to Cuteplantsworld(SG), this plant is from South America. It turns light green when short of light and you know they are happy when they bloom, and it just carries on flowering. Some say it turns red during winter, so I will have to wait a few more months to find out.
Here are some of the tips on how to take care of your PGs based on my experience under Auckland weather:
1. It can thrive on both full direct or indirect sunlight (mine are on an east-facing window sill).
2. The bottom of the leaves show you if they need water already or no. Thinner means more water.
3. When propagating Pilea Globosas, you must cut the branch above a healthy cluster of leaves. Let it callus for 5 to 7 days in the least moist area of the house. When you plant it straight after cutting, it will not thrive and rot.
4. For soil type, I mix 3 parts regular potting mix, 2 part washed coarse sand, and 1 part pumice and it has not failed my Pileas.
