A balanced playroom gives children different ways to use their bodies, focus, build, create and reset — all within the same space.
This design brings those play needs together through clear zones for active play, constructive play, role play, reading and open-ended activities. The climbing wall, Swedish ladder, overhead bars and rings give children opportunities to climb, hang, balance and build confidence through movement, while the surrounding play areas support quieter, more focused play.
The mural plays an important role too. Rather than treating the active play equipment as something separate, the layered landscape wraps across the walls and climbing surfaces, connecting the whole room visually and giving the equipment a clear place within the design.
Storage sits close to where each type of play happens, keeping resources accessible without allowing the room to feel overloaded.
This is what we mean by educational design: creating a space that supports a balanced range of play, while still working as one cohesive room.
