I suppose it could have been worse! 🤷🏽 Had images of the club being let go and torpedoing through the air. Gentle reminder…if you see this guy turn up to a driving range just watch yourself! 🤦🏽‍♂️🤣

Chestnut serving board with natural live edge. Large board finished with food safe satin Osmo oil. I have a little more resin work to do to fill some holes on the edges, some small round wooden Chestnut feet to add to the bottom and this will be up for sale for anyone interested.

Large Chestnut serving board.

Made this large serving board from a solid piece of Chestnut with natural live edge. Initially I had planned to make another birthday board from this piece but it required a bit of resin work to fill holes left by woodworm as well as a few cracks around the knot. The laser engraver doesn’t like resin and the laser bounces off the resin so I decided not to take the risk and get it engraved and instead put some nice handles in it and some feet and turn it in to a serving board for food.

I am planning to make another birthday board in the near future once I find the right piece of wood. I made my first birthday board for a local ECE centre. On Monday I visited the same centre to look at a couple of jobs they want done and I got to see the birthday board in use. It looks soooo good with all the kids names/faces hanging from the hooks under each month. I wanted to take a photo but with all the kids faces on the board it wasn’t an option.

What do you think of this Chestnut serving board? This was my first time working with Chestnut. A beautiful wood with some really nice wood grain but a very hard wood making for perfect serving boards that get a lot of use. I have finished this board with a food safe satin Osmo oil and will be adding some small Chestnut feet in each corner which I made from the round pieces that I cut out the handles. Don’t like to waste anything!

This will be up for sale for anyone who is interested. I am currently building some stock of different wood working projects which I hope to take to markets over Summer. Have done a few markets in the past and I really enjoy them. Meeting new people and sparking up conversations. You just never know who you might meet!

A kids builders bench that I built for a returning customer who purchased one of our mud kitchens a couple of years ago. Love those returning customers. Means I must be doing something right!

FUNDRAISER! Only 16 numbers left to go and we can draw a winner!

Raffling off this very beautiful and unique walking stick/tokotoko.

Made from a solid piece of native Horoeka/Lancewood. This has been sanded smooth and finished with Osmo oil. It has a natural handle which I have shaped from one of the roots. Very rare to find a piece of Horoeka with roots still attached which has enabled me to shape a natural handle. Have also rebated and resined a piece of greenstone/pounamu in to the handle. I have positioned the pounamu so that when you hold the stick your thumb rests on the pounamu.

This would make a beautiful taonga for that kuia or koro in your life or maybe even your self. Something that could be handed down through generations. A very special and unique walking stick. One of a kind!

Tickets are $10 each. Includes postage in NZ. Only 40 tickets. Great odds to win. Once all tickets are sold we will use the following live Lotto draw to draw a winner. Bonus number drawn on the night will be the winner.

Got stuck in to shaping this Pikorua today. Using wood carving chisels and a dremel to do most of the shaping before sanding it smooth. Hope to have all the shaping on this one finished tomorrow before starting on another one. Once I’ve got them all shaped up I will move on to filling the voids with resin and kauri gum.
I keep all the sawdust that I make and mix the sawdust with resin and a black pigment which I then put in to the voids along with some kauri gum. The sawdust and black pigment mixed together with the resin I’ve found is a good way to imitate the bark of the tree and just helps to make it look more natural rather than just putting kauri gum in there and filling it with clear resin.
Once the sawdust mixture is in there then I lay the kauri gum and then fill it with clear resin so you can see the kauri gum through the clear resin.
Will post up some progress pics so you can see the process of how I do it. This is a method that I learnt over 20 years ago when I was making electric guitars from swamp kauri. It was taught to me by an old Dutch men who use to make the most stunning swamp Kauri tables filled with kauri gum. Back when kauri gum was plentiful and cheap. Not so plentiful and cheap anymore!

A food stand/pataka I built for a local ECE centre to give away any leftover produce they have to the community. Great idea! Delivered this one last week.
