Which colour combination do you prefer?

These two cards use the same basic layout and the Glow of Harvest Designer Series Paper, but I changed a few of the colours and details.

The card on the left has a Crumb Cake embossed piece, with Cajun Craze as the layer behind the patterned paper. The card on the right uses Pecan Pie for the embossed piece.

I also changed the sentiment layers. One has a full Early Espresso circle behind it, while on the other I've offset a circle punched from the same size.

They're only small changes, but it's interesting to see how changing the colours and a few details can give you another variation of the same card.

Which do you prefer — left or right? What is it about that one that you like?

Father’s Day is only a week away — have you made your card yet?

While I was playing with the leaf stamp from the Kindred Greetings kit this week, I realised it worked really well for Father’s Day cards too.

I tried the same idea in both blue and green and kept the designs fairly simple.

I’m usually drawn to the blue, but I rather like the green too.

Which would you choose for a Father’s Day card — blue or green?

Have you ever wondered what else you can make once you’ve finished the cards in a kit?

In this week’s Live I started with the three Kindred Greetings Paper Pumpkin cards, then had a play with the stamp set and created quite a few alternatives.

I used a couple of simple techniques, tried different colours and even made some Father’s Day cards along the way.

If you missed the Live, you can watch the replay and see how I made them. I’ll put the YouTube link in the comments.

What else can you create with the stamps from a Paper Pumpkin Kit?

In today’s Live, I shared the three original card designs from the August Kindred Greetings Paper Pumpkin Kit, then used the leaf stamp to create some alternative cards.

For the first card, I used masking, repeated stamping and ink blending to leave a white section for the sentiment. I also shared an easy way to create a coordinating coloured border with an ink spot when you don’t have the matching cardstock.

For the second card, I created a watercolour-style background using the acrylic block stamping technique. This involves applying ink directly to a clear block, spritzing it with water and pressing it onto the cardstock. Once it was dry, I stamped the leaves over the background and finished the cards in two different ways.

I used Peaceful Pine and Misty Moonlight Stampin’ Spots saved from previous Paper Pumpkin Kits, showing how useful the stamps and ink spots can continue to be after the original projects are complete.

I also shared another alternative using the leftover panel from one of the kit’s die-cut pieces. It is always worth looking at what remains after removing the die cuts—you may be able to use it on another card.

Which do you prefer: the masked and blended design or the acrylic block stamped background?

Not sure which colours to use with your patterned paper?

Here's a handy tip — you don't have to guess!

Stampin' Up! lists the coordinating colours used in each Designer Series Paper pack. You can find them on the label on the pack, as well as in the catalogue or with the product information online.

With the Glow of Harvest paper, I could see colours including Early Espresso, Pecan Pie, Crumb Cake, Golden Glow and Cajun Craze, which gave me a starting point for choosing my cardstock and ink.

It makes putting colour combinations together so much easier.

Do you usually check the listed colours, or do you choose your colours by eye?
