I’m so GLAD it’s spring! The warmer weather makes a marked change to the speed of growth in the garden and things are popping up everywhere.

Gladioli are typically summer flowering bulbs but I’ve had a few from last year in a warm spot… and these flowered on the equinox. A definite warm welcome to spring.

Gladioli might be a bit of an old school flower but I love them - tall and elegant and beauty stunning flowers. And they continue to open up then stem, meaning they change and develop - giving great vase life!

I know what you’re thinking… finally, some content about my legs…

And more importantly, finally some new boots!

These are the Goldie Zip from Apex Footwear, a family-owned Kiwi company that recently sent me a pair to put through the paces in my garden.

I’ve been wearing them for a couple of weeks now and I bloody love them. They’re fully waterproof, with a gusset (basically extra support and shape) to keep water and dirt out.

There’s also protection underfoot that makes a big difference when I’m using a spade, or spending hours on my feet! Apex also designs its boots with a wider fit for Kiwi feet, which probably explains why I found them comfortable straight away.

Practical, comfortable, properly built for work… and considerably sexier than a safety boot has any right to be!

Something is shifting. We’re at a turning point…

Today is the spring equinox: the moment the sun crosses the equator and the astronomical beginning of spring here in the Southern Hemisphere. This also means move into Autumn if you’re in the North!
From here, the days keep getting longer, the garden keeps waking up, and everything seems to shift into another gear. It makes me very happy, hence the smile :)

I love the change the garden brings because it doesn’t always arrive all at once. Like life, things adjust: a little more light, a little more warmth, something beginning to wake.

Here’s to new seasons, in the garden… and anywhere else you might need a little turning point.

One spring bouquet… far too many photos!

The golden glow of this sunshine yellow Ranuncula really captured me this morning. This gorgeous variety is from a strain called ‘Elegance’ and you can see why!

Full, layered petals with ruffled blooms; sturdy and tall stems; and gorgeous bright colours make these excellent cut flowers. They are almost like mini roses (but better): no thorns!

My biggest day yet. Huge job involving 19 individual arrangements for a big conference dinner with a red, blue and gold brief.

This was a huge job for me and I can tell you making up the arrangements is only half the job. Ordering extra flowers, planning the quantities, sourcing equipment and all the logistics involved make big jobs like this quite an effort. This one went so well though, and all the flowers were snapped up by event attendees which is always a good sign!

Super happy with how this all went!
