The famous photo, 'Pale Blue Dot', shows Earth as a mote of dust caught in a sunbeam.

The amount of time humans have been separated from nature could similarly be shown as the smallest of dots when compared to the whole of human evolution.

It's no wonder then, that our brains still yearn the natural world, and biophilia can have such a powerful effect on people living in the built environment.

Is Christmas Biophilic? I mean, we put an actual tree in the living room. So, how much more biophilic can you get?

Or is biophilia simply a part of the season - underlying the celebrations and social aspects of the holiday?

Is it coincidence that at this time of year it's all about bringing the outside in and taking ourselves into the outside. It's about nature, mystery, nature of the space, nature in the space and refuge. And we love it.
