BULLSEYE 🎯 Scott McIntosh Solo Exhibition

Ashe is proud to present BULLSEYE, the first solo exhibition from emerging New Zealand artist Scott McIntosh.

BULLSEYE brings together twelve months of experimentation, growth and discovery - a body of work shaped by the mountains and sea of Te Waipounamu, everyday experiences, and a playful mix of contemporary influences.

Expect bold colour, expressive mark-making, abstraction, figurative elements and plenty of personality. Skate and tattoo culture make an appearance alongside landscapes, symbols and fragments of lived experience, creating a visual language that refuses to sit neatly in one category.

At times the work is introspective, exploring the tension between ego and essence. At others, it's simply having fun - experimenting with styles, materials and ideas and seeing where they lead.

BULLSEYE is an introduction to Scott McIntosh's practice at a pivotal moment: one year of making, experimenting and finding his direction, brought together for his first solo exhibition.

LABYRINTH
An extraordinary new arrival fromCatherine Roberts

“My work is a result of an intuitive dialogue between artist and canvas.

I’ve been painting for over two decades from the south coast of Wellington. My career journey has taken me from a self-taught amateur, selling pieces on the walls of local cafes, to the walls of art galleries across Aotearoa from Auckland down to Queenstown.

My craft is by hand and intentionally imperfect; a natural process, led by a strive for balance of colour, texture and contrast.

Playing with these elements and following the ebb and flow of creative process, I bring organic, intangible and ponderous conversations together on canvas.

In life I am not so confidently spoken, but I find my voice through my art. I create art with no set intentions, but a purpose to captivate those who view my work; to carry on the conversation.”

This piece deserves to be seen in person. Available to view at Ashe 153 High St, Ōtautahi

If you've passed the gallery in the evening lately, you may have noticed something illuminating through the window.

Let me introduce Trish Campbell.

Trish creates light sculptures that are less about a fixed form and more about what happens when light, material and space collide. Light fractures, reflects and multiplies, drawing you into the work and making you part of the experience. Beautiful, unexpected, and perhaps just a little bit magical.

We're so excited to welcome Trish's light works to Ashe. Come and see them glowing in the gallery - especially after dark.

'Holding Light' by Amy Hoedemakers
A signature Amy Hoedemakers landscape, 'Holding Light' pairs deep, moody blues with luscious silver leaf that catches the movement of the clouds and shifts beautifully with the light. Available in a special 40cm work, with two additional 30cm works available to create a considered set.

'Coastlines' by Lisa Banks
A beautiful landscape painting capturing Pigeon Bay on Banks Peninsula, just beyond Christchurch, with Lisa Banks bringing a sense of stillness and contemplation to this familiar local landscape. 'Coastlines' invites you to pause and reconnect with the quiet beauty of the place around us. More delicious landscapes by Lisa also available at Ashe.

'Often Licked' by Richard MacDonald
"This piece has come full circle from a painted concept in 2012 that I subsequently built into a static model. Remember your mum with her trusty Edmonds Cook Book, and all the associated tastes, smells and sounds? In its melding of two familiar cultural icons, this faux appliance explores visual links to our childhood, while its form also celebrates the mid-century design ethos."

'Dancing Swallow' by Rachel Walker
A playful original watercolour and ink painting capturing a swallow mid-flight, full of Rachel’s signature energy and movement. Beautifully framed in dark timber, the work brings a lively sense of the natural world into the home.

The final weekend of IN GOOD COMPANY
More than 20 Ashe artists, bringing together an eclectic mix of painting, sculpture, ceramics, bronze, fibre and mixed media. There’s still plenty to discover - and some beautiful works still available to take home.
