When the retail-floor lighting at Mitre 10 Mega Papanui in Christchurch was due for replacement, the project team wanted a solution that could improve the visibility of merchandise throughout the store while delivering stronger vertical light levels across shelving displays.

The lighting solution installed at the new Mitre 10 Brougham Street store has demonstrated the effectiveness of a continuous linear lighting approach, which ultimately made the choice easy.

As done for the Brougham Street store, the TRILUX E-Line Next was selected for the entire retail floor. The system offers a range of optical distributions suited to the varying requirements of the sales environment while remaining aligned with the project's budget expectations.

The completed lighting scheme delivers vertical illuminance levels ranging from approximately 700 lux to 1000 lux across store shelving, and has improved product visibility while creating a more consistent and evenly lit retail experience.

The last person left the office hours ago, but the lights are still on in several rooms. It's a familiar scene, and a costly one.

A new piece from TRILUX argues that intelligent buildings start with intelligent lighting. The logic is simple once you see it. Few systems reach as much of a building as lighting does. Luminaires are almost everywhere and already connected to power, which makes them the natural place to build in sensors that read occupancy, daylight, temperature and air quality.

From there, lighting stops being something you just switch on and off. It becomes a source of data that heating, ventilation and building management can all draw on, so spaces are only lit and conditioned when they're actually in use.

The City Rail Link is finally open, and it's all anyone in Auckland can talk about. But it's only one of a number of changes to the city centre, which looks quite different from how it did a few years ago. Many public spaces are now greener, safer, and easier to move through.

We're proud to have played a part in upgrading Quay Street, Te Komititanga, Victoria Street West and other spaces. Several of our team are Aucklanders, and helping to shape a more liveable city, even in a small way, means a lot to us.
One of our favourite new spaces is Mercury Lane, off Karangahape Road, where we supplied the lighting and advised on the lighting design of the space. The feature posts there tell the story of Tāne Mahuta, who held up the sky so light could reach the world below. There's something fitting about being asked to bring light to a place built around that very story. Next time you're on K Road, go and see it after dark.

How do you illuminate a monument clearly while minimising light spill?

That was the challenge at the core of the lighting solution for the Anzac memorial cenotaph at Cromwell Memorial Hall & Event Centre.

The project required precise illumination of the memorial rather than a broad wash of light. Light needed to remain within the intended area. A key client requirement was for the memorial to be illuminated with a uniform distribution of light. We selected the WE-EF FLC Gobo as the focus product for the installation. The projector provided a platform for placing light accurately across the memorial from the available mounting location.

The lighting equipment and motif therefore needed to control both the outline of the projected light and the illumination level within individual parts of that projection.
