Many people have questioned why i felt it was important to put solar on my new house when we built 5 years ago. I paid for my solar panels before we started building so I couldn’t back out. For me it was for environmental reasons - not financial benefit or free power. (Although I am quite chuffed if we have a month with no power bill). I believe all new houses should have solar unless the orientation and aspect would make this impractical. The argument offered to counter my belief; it’s an expensive exercise given our power generation is from renewable sources. Hmmm - is it though? Will it stay that way ? As our population grows and electric cars become more prevalent, add a helping of climate change - what will that look like ? What’s our game plan?
Coal generation in NZ already outstripping previous years
New Zealand used more than one million tonnes of coal in just the first half of this year, more than any full year since 2012, as low hydrolake levels and gas shortages continued through the quarter.
