🌙 The Apothecary Advent 🌙
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After much debating with myself, it’s official, I’m signing up for another Christmas Advent for 2026, perhaps even my last one -
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With the Studio Ghibli advent having been such a success, and the huge amount of orders coming to a close in the next few weeks, I will have a lot more time on my hands to be able to take on a project for the end of the year, which this time won’t be pushed aside until the last minute because of overextending myself 🙂‍↕️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Which means I am super excited to announce a theme I’ve been coveting for several years, a white whitch herbalist’s favorite.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Limited pre-orders going live on 29.03, more info to come soon 🤩🌙🥀

Time to start sharing some Behind the Scenes of when I was working on this collection for the yarn advent.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This mini series will be more like a little vlog. Not many episodes, a bit chaotic and mostly disorganised, but full a real life BTS moments 🥰
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In this first episode I run you through how I approach my advent calendar and show you some of the process of creating the Arrietty colourway 🩷

✨ Studio Ghibli Collection: Final Fade Reveal ✨

This is it: the final reveal of the full 24-mini fade. Every colour inspired by a Studio Ghibli film has now had its moment on its own, and today they finally come together, side by side, in one continuous natural gradient. What began as a daily unveiling has now reached its quiet conclusion, and this image shows the full story: how each film-inspired colour speaks to the next, how the palette breathes as a whole, and how the entire advent calendar flows as one complete body of work.

This fade was designed with intention and flexibility at its core. Colour #1 seamlessly follows on from colour #24, meaning the fade loops back into itself — you can start knitting from any point and continue endlessly in a harmonious cycle. Within the larger fade, there are also natural groupings of roughly three to six colours that can be lifted, rearranged, or worked on their own while still maintaining cohesion. Whether you knit the entire fade, work smaller projects by section, or rearrange the order to make something entirely your own, the structure invites creativity, play, and personal expression.

This collection has been a true passion project, one that required immense care, time, and heart. And with that, I want to share something important. In two weeks’ time, this Studio Ghibli Collection will be released as full skeins, available for pre-order. This will also be my final pre-order collection for pre-orders...
Since 2023, navigating financial pressure, a global recession, and an ever-growing list of responsibilities outside of dyeing has meant I’ve often been chasing my tail. Unable to create, deliver, and present yarn at the standard I hold myself to. Continuing in this way is no longer sustainable for me, creatively or financially, and from 2026 onward I will be stepping back from the business.
This final collection is my way of closing this chapter with intention… one last opportunity to create something meaningful, beautiful, and deeply considered for those who have supported my work over the years. Thank you for being here, for valuing slow art, and for allowing me to pour so much of myself into this journey. 🌿✨

Studio Ghibli Advent Calendar: Day 25
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Spirit of Ghibli
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This colourway is an homage to the shared soul that runs through every Studio Ghibli film. The quiet magic found in landscapes, skies, architecture, and the gentle spaces between moments.
Pastel pistachio greens, lavender, soft blues, and sun-washed yellows melt into one another, echoing the hand-painted backgrounds Ghibli is so beloved for: rolling flower fields, moss-covered paths, glowing skies, and villages bathed in soft light.
Overlays of aqua and mint reflect rivers, wind, and open skies, while fine rusty brown speckles ground the palette — a nod to earth, timber, rooftops, and the lived-in warmth of Ghibli’s worlds.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These colours aren’t tied to one story, but to all of them. The way nature and architecture are always lovingly illustrated, surrounding each character with beauty, calm, and wonder.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Spirit of Ghibli is a celebration of those quiet landscapes, those endless fields of flowers, and the feeling of stepping into a world where softness and imagination exist side by side, like in a watercolour dream. 🌱🌸

Studio Ghibli Advent Calendar: Day 24
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Spirited Away
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is time for our last mini and movie from this series, and I’m sure one of the most awaited ones!
Soft aquas and gentle mints echo the bathhouse steam and river spirit, while deep navy and inky aubergine reflect the quiet night scenes, shadowed corridors, and the mystery of the spirit world.
Warm flashes of peach and brick red are drawn from lantern light, Chihiro’s clothing, and the rich reds of the bathhouse itself. Together, these colours mirror the film’s balance of softness and darkness, innocence and strength.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Released in 2001, Spirited Away won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature (the first hand-drawn anime to do so) and has won the hearts of many, securing itself as one of the most iconic and reknown film from the production company.

Studio Ghibli Advent Calendar: Day 23

Kiki’s Delivery Service
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Soft peach skies at sunrise, vivid pops of red, and inky navy blues leaning into aubergine, this colourway is a love letter to Kiki’s and its quietly powerful palette.
The warm peach tones echo the gentle European seaside town and its sunlit rooftops, while the deep reds honour Kiki’s iconic dress and bow. The grounding navy and aubergine shades reflect the night skies, the weight of independence, and the moments of doubt that shape Kiki’s journey as she learns to trust herself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Released in 1989, Kiki’s Delivery Service marked a turning point for Studio Ghibli, becoming one of its first major commercial successes in Japan. Inspired by Eiko Kadono’s novel, the film is celebrated for its European-inspired settings, hand-painted skies, and its heartfelt portrayal of creativity, burnout, and growing up. Kiki’s story reminds us that magic isn’t just about flying—it’s about finding balance, purpose, and confidence in who you are.

Studio Ghibli Advent Calendar: Day 22
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This colorway was dyed in response to the visual tension at the heart of Princess Mononoke, a world caught between shadow and vitality, violence and reverence. The base begins in a dusty blue–light grey, echoing the film’s misted skies, ash, and quiet moments of stillness. Overdyed layers of deep midnight navy drift into inky purples, reflecting the nocturnal scenes and the looming presence of the forest gods.
Lush greens in multiple hues emerge throughout the skein, representing the raw, untamed life of the forest: moss, leaves, and ancient growth reclaiming the land. Flecks and washes of blood red cut through the palette, a deliberate nod to the film’s unflinching portrayal of conflict, sacrifice, and the cost of imbalance between humanity and nature.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Released in 1997 and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Princess Mononoke is one of Studio Ghibli’s most complex and mature works. Set in a mythic version of Japan’s Muromachi period, the film explores industrialisation, environmental destruction, and moral ambiguity. Refusing to paint any character as purely good or evil. Its colour palette mirrors this philosophy: muted greys and blues collide with vibrant greens and visceral reds, creating a visual language that feels both ancient and urgent.

Studio Ghibli Advent Calendar: Day 21
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A film where colour quietly carries the weight of the world. Much of the movie is grounded in soft, weathered blues, dusty greys, and muted pastels. Tones that evoke wind-scoured skies, ancient technology, and a landscape shaped by both ruin and hope.
Nausicaä herself is most often seen in blue, a colour that comes to symbolise compassion, balance, and her deep connection to the natural world.
This denim-blue colourway draws directly from that visual language. The shifting range from pale, worn denim to deeper, stormier blues mirrors the ever-moving skies and windswept valleys of the film. Grey and pastel undertones soften the palette, echoing the quiet, melancholic atmosphere that runs through the story. Speckles of sea-moss green and earthy brown reference the Toxic Jungle; its spores, plants, and the living world reclaiming what was lost.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind predates Studio Ghibli but laid its foundation, introducing many of the themes that would define the studio: environmentalism, empathy, and the idea that nature is not something to conquer, but to understand. This yarn is my homage to that balance: worn, wind-touched, and quietly powerful.

Studio Ghibli Advent Calendar: Day 20
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Only Yesterday
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of Studio Ghibli’s most introspective and quietly powerful films. The skein is anchored in a deep midnight blue base, layered with darker navy and shadowed blues, echoing the film’s restrained, almost melancholic palette. Throughout, flashes of soft yellow break through the darkness, inspired by the safflowers that punctuate the countryside scenes, moments of warmth and clarity blooming within reflection.
In the film, greys, blues, and muted navies dominate the adult present, grounding the story in realism and emotional subtlety. In contrast, brief warmer tones appear like memories themselves: fleeting, luminous, and deeply personal. This yarn mirrors that balance: introspective blues holding space for small but meaningful sparks of light.
The yellow flowers are symbolic of growth, labor, and reconnection with the self, mirroring Taeko’s emotional journey.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The film was not released in North America until 2016, making it one of Ghibli’s most quietly rediscovered works. It was one of the first Ghibli films aimed primarily at adults, focusing on memory, identity, and everyday life rather than fantasy.

Studio Ghibli Advent Calendar: Day 19
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Whispers of the Heart
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This colorway was hand-dyed as a love letter to Whisper of the Heart (1995), one of Studio Ghibli’s most quietly beautiful films. The palette drifts through peachy vintage tones, soft browns, and muted oranges, echoing the film’s warm, almost sepia-washed interiors and nostalgic light. These shades melt into sage greens, sea moss, sea foam, and celadon blue-greens, reflecting the leafy Tokyo hills, antique shops, and the gentle calm of everyday life.
Deeper indigo blues and subtle brown-green speckles add contrast and depth, inspired by twilight scenes, shadowed corners, and the emotional weight of first dreams and growing up.
The overall feel is intentionally worn, gentle, and timeless. Like a memory you’re not sure is yours, but it feels familiar all the same.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s one of the few Studio Ghibli films set almost entirely in a realistic, modern Tokyo, focusing on creativity, self-doubt, and finding your own voice. The film’s subdued, earthy color palette was a deliberate choice to support its intimate, grounded story, letting emotion shine without visual spectacle.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The song “Take Me Home, Country Roads” plays a symbolic role, tying together themes of longing, direction, and personal growth.
