Over the past few days, David has been at the Mondoluce showroom for Melbourne Design Week, personally building the monumental sculptural work, Bilang.
The concept for Bilang was initiated by Murrup Biik artists Chris Joy and Kim Wandin (Wurundjeri Woiwurrung). Meaning “string bag” in Woi-wurrung, the work has been constructed as a giant three-metre-high woven form, expressing the strata and ochre tones of the land.
It has been incredible watching Bilang take shape row by row in the showroom. We would love to hear from anyone who visited and saw the process unfold. ✨
Now on display alongside Bilang is the newest sculptural lighting concept, Manta, inspired by the movement and graceful form of the manta ray, as well as Dusk, David Trubridge’s latest battery-powered portable lamp.
If you missed the live build process, the completed exhibition remains on display until 23 May.
And don’t forget David’s evening talk, Think Like a Tree, on Thursday 21 May, 6–8pm
