Just came across these photos from a few years back in Autumn when I decided to have some timeout with my deadheads and spare blooms decorating the front gate by my flower shed. To me playing with flowers can be like painting a picture. It can be nice to have time away from mundane jobs just to recharge and refocus alone in my head. A time to come up with new plans and ideas. Maybe sometimes it’s an escape from reality of life like playing music or singing. No worries if it fell apart and didn’t last as nothing is forever in life… this is a guarantee.
Like life, flowers aren’t meant forever, one blooms for a few days or a week. The plant flowers for a season then rests and rises again.
Playing with flowers is a passive therapeutic horticultural experience. It’s considered passive horticultural therapy as the blooms are the byproduct of horticulture. This is something I have studied and am passionate about. Passive horticultural therapy is a very healing experience too 🌱🪻🪴

I loved designing these two arrangements for a beautiful wedding last summer. These photographs were taken before they ventured up to Central Otago for the big day. You can see the selection of blooms I had to create with in the last photo. Most of these were grown by myself here in Otatara.
I still have some availability for late February and early March if you are looking for something similar in 2027.

Quietly growing the next season 🌿

While the garden rests through winter, I’m quietly working away behind the scenes — planning, dreaming and mapping out the blooms for another summer at Blooming Heck.

This photo takes me back to last summer — three matching bouquets, bought as a special gift and made entirely from blooms grown here in the garden. 💐

So much of what you see in summer begins during these slower winter months… a little planning, a lot of dreaming, and plenty of time spent getting ready for the season ahead.

I can’t wait to see what this summer brings. 🌸

Back in March I had the pleasure of making these bouquets for Ellen and her bridesmaids. The large bridal bouquet pictured here was bold and bright with lots of statement colours including oranges and bright pinks. I sourced Gerberas as they were a favourite flower. I really enjoyed the way the bouquet came together with such a stunning lot of flowers to work with. The beautiful delphiniums gave height to the bouquet and poppies and cosmos gave a touch of whimsy. I added 3 shades of hanging amaranth to to give some drape and tie the colours together as a modern touch avoiding traditional greenery. You can see in these pics that I had a definite front and back side so the bouquet could be enjoyed from a few angles.
The floaty, whimsy pink and purple bridesmaids bouquets pictured in the last photo were a definite contrast to the look of the bridal bouquet.
I was thrilled to see how the bouquets looked with the girls and their stunning dresses when I saw the wedding photos ❤️

I’ve spent all morning harvesting and picking these beautiful bunches for the gate flower shed. The door is closed but it’s fully stocked. There are some gorgeous flowers growing at the moment but may not be for much longer as the frosts are coming soon.
These are $30 each. Some beautiful boutique blooms amongst these! 😍❤️
