Throw back to this tiny dude living amongst the flowers.

His name is probably Gary.
Or Steve.

Definitely owns a BBQ and enjoys watching “the game.”

Haven’t seen Gazza/Stevo this season. Potentially he met Shazza and they skipped town 🤷🏻‍♀️

Bring on peony season 🖤

Also, totally unrelated… but nevertheless very important… op shoppers!! (And I can’t be the only one who’s noticed this 😳)

Why is there ALWAYS at least one Hayley Westenra CD in every single op shop in New Zealand?! Like even if the CD rack has 10 CD’s … guaranteed at least one is Hayley Westenra 😳

Like A.L.W.A.Y.S 🤣

How many CDs did that woman actually sell?!

Seriously, have a look next time and send me photos of your findings 💀

Like who is supplying them all?! 🤣 Do we have any Westenra fans in the house?

Not my cup of tea personally but she obviously did alright 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Anywho, that’s my random comment of the day 😎 Shout out to Hayley if she’s lookin 👀

Just 2 wacky little cuties here on the farm 😍 True feral flowers if ever I saw them.

This is exactly why I love growing weird things. Perfectly symmetrical flowers are lovely and all… but the strange ones? The frilly, weirdo, scruffy, imperfect little treasures of the flower world? They have my whole heart 💀🌸

FERAL OBJECTS

It’s been a while… and a few of you had been asking 😏

If you’re new here, autumn & winter Kristy makes feral little relics alongside preorder bouquets.

Slowly made with intention (so don’t expect 5 a day 🤣)

Smoky quartz.
Reclaimed materials.
Salvaged chain, repurposed textures, and pieces intentionally built from what already exists rather than mass-produced new.

One-of-one wearable talismans for the wild at heart.

A moody pic of Copper Boy dahlia 😍

Our dahlias are still in the ground. Some are even putting on fresh new growth with this unseasonably warm weather!

I remember this time last year when the farm was flooding and I was out there slogging my guts out trying to get them all out of the soggy ground 🫠 Happy to not be in such a rush this time. The longer they stay in the ground, the happier (and hardier) they will be for winter storage.

Our dahlia storage tips (everyone has their own way) …
🌸 We keep them as whole clumps. More energy stored in the clump = less chance of them drying out and shrivelling in storage.
🌸 Keep the clumps out of the sun with plenty of airflow.

That’s it. Seriously, that simple 🤣

Which is great because there are some extremely complicated storage methods out there involving gladwrap, chillers, humidifiers, and all sorts of things I just know I’d never consistently commit to as a self-diagnosed lazy gardener 💀

So luckily for me, in this case, less really is best.

Tuber sale is happening August 30th at 7pm through the website 🌸 A reminder too that we’re expanding the dahlia field further this season, so not all varieties may be available this year. I’ll know more closer to the sale.

Every business has to start somewhere.

I started here… long before Feral Flower Farm existed.

I was insecure. Overthinking everything. Trying to work out who “online me” was supposed to be. Trying to make content people would like instead of making things that actually felt authentic to me.

It fizzled out pretty fast because the passion wasn’t there. My heart wasn’t in building a brand from pieces of everybody else online. Honestly, I think at the time I was still figuring out who “me” even was.

Somewhere between growing rows of imperfect flowers (and probably reading The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson 😅) something shifted in me.

I realised I was exhausted trying to be palatable all the time. So I stopped hiding. I stopped trying to polish away the weird parts. I stopped waiting until I felt confident enough to show up properly.

I started listening to my own intuition instead.

Then one night I woke up with the words “Feral Flower Farm” in my head. At the time it felt random and impulsive… but looking back now, I think the seed had already been quietly growing for years.

Wherever you are in your own business journey … whether it’s still “just an idea” scribbled in the notes app at 2am, a tiny side hustle, or something you’re slowly building one awkward, messy step at a time … keep going.

Most businesses don’t begin with confidence and polished branding. Sometimes they begin with a pair of boots, a whole lot of overthinking, and a weird little feeling in your gut that says “this could really become something.”

(Still love the pic though… but gimme Doc Martens any day 😎🖤🤘🏼)
