The abundance of filler flowers when I was picking this morning made me appreciate just how important they are. Sure the dahlias are popular and scream ‘look at me’ - but they are getting a little funky now. The chrysanthemums, matricaria, salvias, hydrangeas, alliums, scented geranium, stock, snapdragons…. All make the bouquet balanced.

A cancelled wedding order and disappointment transformed into lots of joy and fun. My two granddaughters made posies and donated them to their choice of recipients. The local Fire service and the Wellington Free ambulance.

Had a fabulous trip away with fellow flower growers in the Floral Business Activator group to Melbourne. Many thanks to Susy@petalandtwig who stocked my flower stall while I was away. The dahlias are doing a mad flowering burst before the cold weather so I now have lots of dead heading to do. No complaints though.

Dahlias can represent the full colour spectrum. Perfect for representing all moods and tastes.

My those Lisianthus are slow - seedlinds planted end of Septmber. Meanwhile gorgeous Nadia Ruth survived the storm and is my current favourite dahlia. I am still waiting for Joal Kaitlin …… Hoping we have enough sunlight now to grow tubers for next Spring. I heard today that sunlight hours in Wellington this summer were DOWN 82%! Should I be planting shade loving plants??😎
