Really loving this settled May autumn weather here in Wellington — dry days, mild temperatures, and now we're being treated to the most beautiful autumn colours.

The changing leaves are so inspiring, and it's making for some lovely opportunities to get out for a walk and soak it all in.

Look at this little cutie I found growing in a courtyard pot. Its so small at 2 cm tall I almost missed it. I’ve always thought mushrooms are so beautiful — there’s something about them that really brings the child out in me.

Did you know that what we see as a mushroom is only the fruit? The main part lives hidden underground in a huge network called mycelium, helping forests “talk” to each other by sharing nutrients and signals. Nature is pretty amazing.

Spotting this teeny one has me feeling inspired and wanting to sit down and needle felt today, but that’s going to be my reward later this week once I get all my Pocket Hug orders finished.

I think this sweet little mushroom might just become my first piece of inspiration. 🍄

One thing I’m really loving about learning needle felting lately is that my son has started joining me too.

We’ve both found it to be such a relaxing, mindful activity — we sit together, chat about our days, and it’s become a lovely way for him to unwind after school and stab away any frustrations of the day.

This was his very first effort: an apple 🍎 and an avocado 🥑 and now he’s already planning a banana and pizza slice next!

Work in progress today ☀️ Sunshine has been streaming through the lounge window while I’ve been working on wool embroideries for these lovely pocket hugs, due to head off to a stockist soon.

I’m also very glad it’s the end of the week and looking forward to spending some time this afternoon and over the weekend needle felting with my boy, who’s recently shown an interest in it. I’m excited to share a little creative time together ❤️

This is a little mock setup of my market table at home ahead of tomorrow’s market.

St Orans College, High Street, 4-7pm.

I’ve found over the years that doing a practice layout beforehand makes such a difference. It helps me work out exactly what stands, shelves, baskets and displays I actually need to take, and means I can snap a quick reference photo. Then when we arrive, my husband and kids can jump in and help set up because everyone knows where everything goes — it makes the whole process so much quicker and less stressful.

It also means I’m not trying to design the table on the fly or dragging along extra gear I don’t end up using. A little bit of planning really does go a long way, even if it’s slightly painful having to pack it all away and set it up again the very next day 😅

I’m really excited for tomorrow’s market though! My daughter and I spent tonight making phone charms together, something she’s been wanting to try for ages. She’s done all the beadwork herself and I’ve just helped with a few crimps and bits of plier work. She’s getting better and better, and she’s so excited to have them available at the market tomorrow.

We’ll also have a huge range of handmade goodies available, along with houseplants that my children and I have grown together from cuttings. These are $8 each and would make lovely Mother’s Day gifts — or a little treat for yourself, a friend or family member 🌿.

The event is raising funds to support the incredible Wellington Free Ambulance and every bit of support really does make a difference.

Would love to see you there if you can make it. They'll be yummy foodtrucks too so you can enjoy the night off cooking while you browse.
