Day 47: “A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.” 🌼 – Zen Shin

Happy Saturday, friends! Had a cruisy morning at the Hobsonville Catalina Markets (brunch was so good), then pottered around at home ticking off a bit of housework and getting ready for the week ahead. You know those slow-but-productive days that feel like a little reset? That was today.

I had so much fun painting my last gerbera that I felt like keeping the flower vibes going — so here’s a bold red one for your feed. Just a simple piece to keep my daily art practice alive and let my brain relax a bit.

Now I’m off to whip up a roast pumpkin and carrot soup for dinner 🍲 What’s been the best part of your day so far?

Day 46: I paint outside the lines — and I’m totally okay with that 💫
Mānawatia a Matariki ✨ Today I’m taking time to reflect on the year that’s been and look ahead with hope and intention. I’m spending the day with friends and whānau, making space for connection, celebration, and a little stillness.

To ease into the slower pace of the day, I decided to relax with a soft, pink cosmos-inspired flower — just something simple to keep my daily art practice going. No pressure, no rules, just a quiet moment to be present.

How are you spending your Matariki? What are you hoping to bring in for the year ahead?

Day 45: To say I’m tired is an understatement, lol 😅 First week at the new job—done and dusted! Bring on the long weekend! You might’ve noticed I went a bit quiet these last few days... I’ve been adjusting to full-time work, holding down the fort at home, and supporting my husband after his big operation. Life’s been a lot, so I gave myself a little break from painting (and gave myself some kindness too).

But tonight? I needed to pick up the brush.
I was itching to create something—so I played around with this landscape-inspired piece, sparked by a class I did last weekend with the lovely . After a week of crunching numbers and navigating accounting software (which I weirdly love, haha—I’m a bit analytical like that), it felt SO good to loosen up and just let the paint flow.

This one's not perfect, but it was fun.

What do you do when life life’s and you need to reset?

Day 44: First day on the new job today — and whew, my brain is fried! 😅 I’ve learnt so much already (and still have so much more to learn), but honestly… I enjoyed it. New beginnings are always a bit of a whirlwind, right? Getting my head around all the new systems, procedures, and the many moving parts of the role — it’s a lot, but I’m up for it.

Fitting in my daily art practice is going to be a whole new challenge now that I’m working full-time, but I’m determined to keep it up. Not just to stay creative, but as a way to unwind at the end of the day. There’s something about sitting down with my paints, even for just 15 minutes, that helps me breathe again.

This little moment of creativity each day is keeping me grounded — even if I’m painting with tired eyes and a sleepy brain 🖌️💤 Here's a daisy for you.

How was your day? What’s something you did today just for you?

Day 43: II felt like painting an anemone inspired flower today—there’s something about the detail in the pistil that I really enjoyed getting lost in while drawing.

Happy Sunday! Hope you're having a good one. I’ve been bouncing between painting and cleaning, trying to get sorted for my first day of work tomorrow. Honestly, I’m a bit nervous… but also ready for a change.

Painting always helps me settle my nerves and clear my head. What do you do when you’re feeling a bit anxious or about to start something new?

Day 42: First in-person watercolour class—and I loved every minute of it! 🎨🌿
Today I headed to the Kumeū Arts Centre for my very first in-person watercolour class with the amazing Nikki Mitchell, and honestly—it was such a refreshing, inspiring experience.

We started with a series of mini artworks (which I secretly love)—from rolling hills and playful line-and-circle combos to a misty, moody tree-filled landscape. That first one really stretched me creatively—in the best kind of way. It felt so good to experiment, play, and try new techniques with guidance right there when I needed it.

Learning from YouTube has been awesome, but there’s something really special about being in a room with other creative people who are just as into it as you are. And having a teacher there to give feedback in real time? Game-changer.

I left feeling so energised, with new ideas buzzing in my head—and I can’t wait to go back for more. 💫

Have you ever tried something creative just for fun—in a class or workshop setting? Maybe it’s been on your list for a while? I’d love to hear what you’ve tried (or want to try next)! 👇

Day 41: Big news, friends!! 🎉
After months of job hunting (since April 😅), I’m stoked to say I’ve landed an admin/sales support job for the next two months—starting Monday! Whoop, whoop! It’s a bit of a shift, but I’m actually excited to see how this new season pushes me to find a balance between work, family, and my creative passion.

Today, I had this itch I had to scratch—getting back to my roots with ink pen drawings. If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know I’m a big fan of bold black lines in my digital work. I’ve been missing that pop of contrast, so I thought… why not mix it with my newer love: watercolour.

I played around with layering loose, imperfect brushstrokes (because let’s be real—perfection is overrated) and added in those crisp black lines I adore. This piece was inspired by the cheerful beauty of the gerbera, and it felt so good to let both styles meet on the page.

Would love to hear what you think—does the combo work for you?

Day 40 🎨 I cannot believe it’s already day 40! This challenge is flying by—but wow, it’s been a ride. So many ups and downs. Honestly, there were moments I wanted to give up on watercolour completely. It felt too hard, too unpredictable. But something shifted lately—I’ve started leaning into its properties instead of fighting them.

I’ve been soaking up everything I can—asking questions, watching tutorials, talking to experts—and the more I understand it, the more I’m falling in love with the technical side too.

Right now, my heart is happiest when I’m painting loose florals. There’s something meditative about it, like switching off your brain and letting your hand follow your intuition. The only thing I plan is the colour palette beforehand so I can mix it up and be ready to flow.

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with blending complementary colours—especially green and magenta. That mix of fresh greens and bold, bright pinks and purples fulls my cup. It creates such a beautiful balance—vibrant but soft, and just really satisfying to paint with.

Only 60 more days to go—I'm so excited to see how much more I’ll learn and grow by Day 100.

✨ Have you got a favourite piece I’ve painted so far? If so, what day was it? I’d love to know what’s resonated with you! 💬

🌿 Day 39 – Do you get that little buzz of excitement too when you step into a tropical garden? Like, all the colours and movement just hit you at once and you want to soak it all in?

That’s exactly the feeling I wanted to capture in this piece. It’s full of that lush, energetic, tropical vibe – kind of like how it feels when the leaves are swaying and the flowers are putting on a show just for you.

My Nanna asked me this morning, “Have you ever painted a hibiscus flower?” and I realised I hadn’t! So this artwork is a little nod to her, filled with love, energy and that spark she gave me to try something new. 🌺

Loose, vibrant brushstrokes, rich greens and flashes of yellow – this one just poured out of me. There’s something about letting go and painting what feels good, right?

👉 What flowers or places instantly lift your mood? I’d love to hear what gives you that spark!

🌿 Day 38 – perfectly imperfect 💜 “Every artist was first an amateur.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today I played around with glazing layers of green and purple, just two colours—but there’s so much you can do with them. It’s all about learning how they build on each other to create form, depth, and a bit of magic. I'm guessing the rain is really influencing my work at the moment.

Not every piece turns out how I’d like (let’s be honest, some go straight in the drawer 😅), but I’m learning that those so-called ‘fails’ are actually part of figuring it out. You’ve got to make the not-so-great ones to get to the good stuff.

It’s easy to hold back—chasing perfect, overthinking, or comparing yourself to people who’ve been at it for years. But the truth is, none of that matters if you don’t start. Stay curious. Educate yourself—you can learn so much from others. Try unexpected combos. Make mistakes. Have fun with it.

And share your journey, even if you’re still learning. Especially if you’re still learning. You never know who you might inspire—or who might reach out and say, “me too.”

That’s how your own style begins to take shape—through the doing, the sharing, and the learning along the way.

Are you learning anything new at the moment? Sidenote: I’m also working on my Mandarin—one of my big goals is to become way more fluent. Would love to hear what you're diving into right now! 👇✨

Four Seasons In One Day - Day 37 - today is one of those classic Auckland days—four seasons in one! We had hail, rain, a thunder and lightning storm, and now it’s sunshine and blue skies. I absolutely love the moody palettes that come with this kind of weather, so I spent some time playing around with mixing complementary colours—green and magenta.

I really enjoyed getting lost in some loose floral work, and if you know me, you won’t be surprised to see that circles are starting to emerge in my watercolour play too. I’ve always loved circular artworks.

Had a great catch-up with my friend Kylie this morning. I’m currently on the hunt for full-time work, so we’re keeping each other accountable and motivated with our goals. It really helps having someone to check in with. Anyone else job hunting at them moment too??
