I have a couple of classic North Island loggers that have been sitting here for about 3 months that the customer seems to have lost interest in. If communication is not made today then these will be put up for sale as well.

A hat trick of general builds this month. The South Island’s turn this time. The focus this time is on classic livestock trucks from the Maniototo area of Otago. Technically the Cook Transport Kenworth is not in the Maniototo area but close enough.
We have the Cook Transport Detroit Diesel V8 powered Kenworth from Hyde, a 903 V8 Cummins powered 3070 International from the now gone McLaren Transport fleet in Ranfurly and a 140 V8 Scania from the Beckers Transport fleet in Oturehua. Their first one. All classic 8 wheelers with cab over pens that no doubt met regularly at livestock sales and processing plants throughout the south after crawling down State Highway 87 and the Pig Root, State Highway 85. All sold. Thanks.

A cool 143m Scania. New templates were created for this shape as their were 2 of this shape to build. The other being a 142. The real thing has been totally rebuilt by the owner and looks and sounds the part.

The perfect logging truck is what I’ve heard the T659 Kenworth labelled. Steve Murphy runs some of these units in his mixed and very impressive fleet just north of Christchurch. This was one of 3 built at the same time but the other went to a different fleet in NZ and the other heading to Australia.

The Fahey Contracting Iveco was built late last year and it’s had its second replication but this time with a Caterpillar D5 on the back. It went to a birthday celebration over on the West Coast.

The second general build was the Mike Lambert Mack Superliner Rugby World Cup special edition. It was also snapped up quickly by a regular customer. I’m still looking for a local source of long logs.

A busy looking build. As are all fire appliance builds. This unit is an ex Fonterra milk tanker given a second lease of life running as a water tanker for FENZ at Wallacetown in the heart of Southland. A very useful unit that you’d want to not be busy.

The Trevor Woolston R Model Mack that was built for general sale was snapped up pretty quick. One of New Zealand’s iconic Mack’s or getting up there anyway ? A classic Kiwi combination running around the North Island at the time in Dibbles colours who specialised in bulk cartage.

Some old school. Hard to believe that such a cool fleet of trucks such as Pacific, Mack, Kenworth, International’s and even White’s ran out of the Taieri Carrying Company yard here in little ole Mosgiel back in the 70s and 80s. We used to come down and play on them when visiting grandparents in Clyde Street in the 70s. Seeing trucks like this was quite a thrill. This build is of their W Model Kenworth, The Green Hornet which was new to them. The real truck still exists and the current owner has put his own personal touch to it and it still looks great.
