Slow news day at Wood U Like. There's a new sign for the market stall setting out payment options and the Avacado scoops now have an avocado laser engraved on them. As I said, slow news day......

Here's something a little different. Made for my good mate Mark who is big on baseballs caps. Now he gets to store them in one easy location which makes him a much tidier human being 😃. Made from one piece of Rimu and cut on the CNC machine. Should be adaptable to make shorter racks as well for those who are space challenged.

Salad scissors ! Yes, they are a thing. My Dad used to handmake these years back, as did I. They were a proper pain in the bum to make, requiring much patience and fettling to get them right. In the end I gave up as they were clearly uneconomic to manufacture. However, due to the power of CNC, I can now make them again and with much better tolerances and finish to boot. They are still probably uneconomic to make but don't they look lovely. 😀

Another new product has emerged from the shed (Yay!)
At the moment I make bow style bread knives in toast and sandwich thickness dimensions and these are very popular.

A customer returning from the States introduced me to a new variation on this theme and this is the bagel knife. With a depth of cut of 4cm (the thickness between the blade and the handle) and incorporating the same razor sharp bread knife blade, this beauty will make short work of bagels, buns and anything that needs a deep straight cut.

The bagel knife is made from recycled NZ heart Rimu and is finished with food safe natural tung oil. Naturally because I love my customers, it's available in right and left handed models.

You can also tart it up with a Paua insert at no cost and it's available now on the Wood u Like website here: https://woodulike.co.nz/products/bread-and-bagel-slicer

Time for another Wood u Like timber giveaway. I purchased a van load of mainly recycled Rimu, Pine and Macrocarpa bits and pieces and have taken what I need so the rest has been offered free to budding woodworker enthusiasts.

It's hard and expensive for amateur woodworkers to obtain suitable timber so this is a way of helping out that community. The wood is mainly smaller bits but it's dry, borer free and a lot of it is already dimensioned so doesn't need much in the way of dressing.

Hi folks. Just occasionally I manage to find the time to make a new product recommended by my lovely customers. This winter I've been able to make three ! Here's the first of them which is a strange looking little item called a herb stripper or herb tool.

You have a series of holes of different dimensions to allow you to pull the stalk of your herb through and the leaves are simply stripped off in the process. No mess, fuss or bother. In addition both ends are bevelled to a sharp edge that is ideal for cutting and crushing your herb leaves once stripped.
But wait! that's not all. Use the flat edges on both sides to sweep your herbs into your cooking or salad. Makes clean up a breeze.

Made from durable and beautiful recycled heart Rimu and featuring nicely rounded sides to comfortably fit the palm of your hand, the herb stripper is just $15.00
Here's a link to the product page on my website:

Stay posted for other new items to come !

Fun project ! Helping to build a little library for a friend in Mapua. It's a great opportunity to learn how to use my new CNC machine. Big learning curve but the potential for this machine is enormous. Love the accuracy of the cuts it makes. Here's the library door being surgically cut !
