It’s been a heartwarming day delivering flowers to cast & crew at the Opera House for Musical Theatre Oamaru’s 70th anniversary show which opened tonight.

Amazing show; inspiring to see so many members of our community shine together after months of rehearsing to celebrate the magical spirit of singing, dance and storytelling together - seven decades of it in our little town!! So much talent right here, with a beautiful encouraging audience too - which is a huge part of the atmosphere.

Our Jemima Jemima Riley-Duddin is very thankful for all she’s learned from this huge family of cast, crew, and orchestra over the past 9 years. Super proud of her Stage Club holiday programme kids, and many friends and colleagues and fellow performers from St Kevin's College, Oamaru who have all shone on stage together!! Jemima has also loved choreographing for some of this show, and we’re endlessly thankful for the community fundraising towards her Broadway training earlier this year which further inspired and fuelled her passion. Being asked to help choreograph has given her the chance to give back a little, and we witness a beautiful cycle which she’s a tiny part of; seventy years of collaboration and community connection, long before our time, yet the energy carries through all these people and stories.

Highly recommended getting tickets from Oamaru Opera House and keep supporting the arts; you’re guaranteed to recognise someone on the stage, in the orchestra pit or in the programme of crew and past shows.

Our local performance scene is something truly creative and special.
