The Coastal Creative

The Coastal Creative Consumerism and acquiring 'stuff' has become part of life for those of us in the Western world.

I share my thoughts on creating a home and lifestyle with a sustainable focus; natural materials and products, quality handcrafted goods, Fairtrade and ethically sourced goods, and displaying objects in our homes that tell a story. I tutor in interior design, and am inspired by homes with a relaxed, natural and contemporary feel. When I come across interiors and goods that are stylish AND environm

entally friendly, I'll be sure to show them here. Several handpicked products are available via my online store, opened in October 2017 www.thecoastalcabin.com

Please follow along if you too are concerned by waste and how this affects our precious planet. With small changes I believe we can create a positive effect on our lifestyle, home, health and the planet.

Far from perfect but taking the learnings and moving on.

I wanted to make a little vessel for my lip balms that sit in my kitchen. I re-made this 4 times but have realised that the paper cord is too fine for the open weave style. The black cord has a wire core so is easy to work with. I didn’t want the undulating pattern but it was tricky to make it hold in straight lines. Onwards!

It is nearly a year ago that we moved to Wanaka for 10 months and I temporarily closed my little online store.
I'm not entirely sure that it's the right decision but I'm closing The Coastal Cabin for good (and you can grab some bargains...see below!)

The Coastal Cabin was the online store that morphed out of The Coastal Creative, a blog I started 7 or so years ago. Things change, and this Fb page will now become The Coastal Creative. Feel free to unfollow! This year I'm learning basketry making techniques and continuing to create raffia wall hangings using contemporary macrame knots, so this is the sort of stuff you'll find here moving forward.

For now, I'm keen to move the small amount of stock I have remaining so I'll pop them up on my Stories and on Messenger over the next couple of days and you can DM me if keen for anything.
Thanks so much for all the support I've been shown over the past few years! It's really really appreciated.

For at least the next month I have closed the store while we settle into our new home in Wanaka. We are here for the year, trying to embrace all the adventures on offer in this amazing part of the country.

It took a lot to make this happen in the 6 weeks before we left - and I need a bit of a holiday to be honest - so have decided to put the store on hold for a while. We move to another house in a months time so I may then start up again with a limited range of goods. And maybe I’ll add new ranges I discover around here! Let me know of any amazing brands I should investigate in the Wanaka/QT area 💛

The Coastal Cabin website is still live so feel free to read through the blog or make contact at any time. And thanks for your understanding while I gather my thoughts and energy!
