I’ve always believed that we shouldn’t have to wait for a special occasion to enjoy the beautiful things in life.

Use the good glasses. Light the candle. Pick a few flowers from the garden. Make your morning coffee feel like a little ritual.

Because sometimes it’s the smallest things that make a house feel like home.

Recently, a lovely customer told me that our posts had inspired her to start making more of her everyday moments special. Even something as simple as pouring her lemonade into a ch*****ne glass.

And I just loved that.

Because that’s really what Crafty Chook is about for me.

It’s not just about making candles or filling a room with beautiful fragrance.

It’s about creating a home you love being in, finding joy in the everyday and remembering that we don’t need a special occasion to make life feel a little more beautiful.

After all, isn’t every day worth celebrating?

Some of these fragrances have been with Crafty Chook for a long time.

Years ago, I began creating scents inspired by the place I now call home — The Mount, Papamoa Beach, mānuka honey, our orchards berry farms and the familiar things that make this little corner of New Zealand feel like ours.

At the time, I thought I was capturing places in fragrance.

But somewhere along the way, I realised it was never really just about how those places smelled.

It was about how they made us feel.

The memories they bring back. The sense of familiarity. That wonderful feeling of home.

And perhaps that’s why these fragrances are still such an important part of Crafty Chook today. In fact, Papamoa Beach has become our most-loved candle — which I think says something rather lovely about the connection we have to fragrance, place and memory.

Crafty Chook has simply grown around that idea.

From creating fragrances inspired by where we live, to thinking more deeply about how we want to feel when we’re at home.

Slow mornings. Open windows. People gathered around the table. A quiet moment at the end of the day. A familiar fragrance in the background.

Perhaps the story was always about home.
I just understand it a little differently now.

It starts as a candle… but it was never made to end there.

Our handmade Coffee Cup Candles were created to live on long after the final burn — becoming the cup you reach for for your morning coffee, afternoon cuppa or one of those little moments at home.

And it seems you love them as much as I do, because they’re currently sold out.

A new collection of handmade cups is on its way. Each one will be a little different, which is part of what makes them so special.

Turns out being your own boss comes with a few questionable workplace habits 😂

Too many coffee breaks, constantly “testing” the stock, rearranging the studio when I should be working, getting distracted by yet another idea, and occasionally complaining about the boss.

Luckily, she’s fairly understanding. 😂
