Jo from Meraki Studio NZ got in touch. She’d been making up her Storybook Village…BUT her electric tealight candles didn’t fit. And this was even before shrinkage during firing.
My heart dropped, something in the design didnt work, how did I miss this (queue existential crisis).
Upon investigation, turns out i’d tested the design using a particularly shallow electric flame. But also, there were quite alot of different candle sizes to account for. I hadnt realised!!
So, how to fix this for every type of candle out there…
Turns out the solution is pretty straight forward!
I recommend making the buildings with the sides whole initially, for structural support.
When the clay has firmed up a bit, and it comes time to cut the side windows, cut 1 window as per the template, and on the otherside cut the top bar off as well.
This then allows for all the sizes of candle I could find and test. I recommend testing the space for the particular candle size you prefer.
I’m also developing some making instructions in case people need them. These will be on my website and in every parcel that goes out with the village from now.
Thanks Jo for spotting this!!
