The biggest environmental cost in flooring is replacement.

That specification is the sustainability argument. A wear layer that thick can be sanded back and refinished several times, so the floor realistically performs for sixty years or more. A thin one gives you ten to twenty. Then it is lifted, landfilled, and the carbon cycle starts again with new material, new freight, new labour, new waste.

We call it Grove to Grave. Judging a floor over decades rather than at install.
