Choosing oak from a small sample can only tell you so much. At our Victoria Street Studio, you can see our oak installed across floors, walls and ceilings, and experience the true scale, texture, colour and natural variation of each finish.

Walk across it. Touch it. Watch how it changes in the light. Bring your plans, joinery samples, stone, paint colours or other materials and see how everything works together.

The floor is where the story of your home begins.

When you’re building or renovating, it’s easy to start with kitchens, paint colours and furniture. But your flooring runs through the entire home, and the colour you choose can completely change how every other finish feels.

A lighter oak can create a soft, relaxed interior. Warmer tones bring richness and warmth. Deeper oak can add drama and depth.

Our advice? Choose the floor early. Bring your cabinetry, benchtop, paint and fabric samples together and see how the whole palette works against the oak.

From baseline to barside.

At Helmores Lane, a private tennis pavilion across from Hagley Park, the match is only half the story. French doors open straight onto the court. Inside, an oval bar of backlit stone, oxblood leather and dark oak sets the scene for the long afternoon that follows.

Underfoot, Bordeaux Oak. Lightly knotted and finished with a handmade bevel, its rich, warm tone holds its own against stone and leather, and comes alive as the low sun moves across the room.

Made for entertaining. Built to be enjoyed for decades.

I grew up on a farm with sheep, beef and forestry. Guardianship and natural materials aren't abstract, they're how we lived.

This September and October in our Christchurch studio, you'll see a bale of wool shorn from sheep our family raises on the farm. On it, rugs from Eden Studio. Beside it, lamps and cushions from Tiffany Anderson's work. All natural materials, all made to last.

There's a quiet kind of sustainability in that. A floor still there in 60+ years. A rug that wears beautifully. Pieces that can be repaired.

I wanted to show this alongside other women who are equally proud of their upbringing, and equally committed to supporting natural materials. To the people who understand that this matters, not just as an aesthetic, but as a way of living.
