Waimak Window & Door Repairs

Waimak Window & Door Repairs Check out my reviews from happy customers here and on Google Often it’s not a big job to repair them either.

Fast and friendly, affordable service and repairs for aluminium sliding doors, hinged doors and windows in Christchurch city, Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Amberley and North Canterbury. Most aluminuim doors and windows have moving parts so their rollers, latches, locks, hinges and handles will eventually wear out – especially in high use areas. You’ll be amazed how much better everything slides, glides, ope

ns, shuts and locks with new components. It pays to replace consumable parts before they start wearing out other parts of your joinery, that can result in costly repairs. We carry a wide range of specialist parts and hardware for most doors and windows available in New Zealand. We service Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Oxford, Amberley and Christchurch City. Glass Policy: We endeavour to take care in our work, but cannot assume responsibility for any glass broken during the repair of your windows and doors. Old glass can have nicks, other imperfections or have moved within the frame that can cause it to crack when the frame is removed or being worked on. In the unlikely event of breakage, the customer assumes responsibility for glass replacement.

Are your sliding doors becoming a real drag?
One problem with ranchsliders is we can’t see the condition of the rollers without taking the whole door out (and sometimes that can be the hardest bit).
Here’s some old, broken rollers that needed replaced - some time ago hubby had smeared the track with grease, which made it move slightly easier in the short term but the steel bearing can grind away the aluminium track making a simple job of swapping out the rollers become a major job of replacing the whole track as well.
So for problems like this and any other concerns about your aluminium doors, windows, locks, latches, hinges or handles give me a call to get them fixed.

The rollers on your old ranch slider may be obsolete, in fact some may have been unavailable for decades.
Often a modern roller can be modified to fit, but some old rollers are part of the door's structure and the only thing holding it together!
Here's some I rebuilt, by drilling out the axle and fitting a new roller and axle to the carriages as you can see in the before & after pic below.
It's great to give a new lease of life to an old door that would otherwise cost thousands to replace.

Is your sliding door more rock than roll?
Is there a definite 'clunk' when using your ranchslider?
Chances are the nylon roller has worn a flat spot, which wears away completely down to the steel bearing (like the photo) that will in turn chew away at your aluminium track, which is costly to repair or replace.
So it's worth keeping an eye and ear out for any strange noises your sliding door makes and if it becomes sticky or harder to move.
For this or any other door or window woe you may have, give me a call or text if you'd like me to check them out.

Rollers & flat spots.
At times you may notice a definite 'clunk' when using your ranchslider.
This usually means a roller has worn a flat spot, and although it will still turn, there's that clunk as the flat bit hits the track.
Eventually more of the flat bit gets worn away until the roller no longer spins and you'll notice the door is harder to use as you're just dragging it along the track.
In the photo below, the nylon roller has worn away completely, exposing a steel bearing that will in turn chew away at your aluminium track, which can be costly to repair or replace.

So it's worth keeping an eye and ear out for any strange noises your sliding door makes, or if it becomes harder to move.

Give me a call or flick me a text if you'd like me to check them out. Jim 0210688932

Over the years I've seen some interesting stuff put/poured on sliding door rollers and tracks.
From cooking oil to lithium, grease and candle wax.
The thing is, in the short term, all of these kinda work. Even if the rollers have locked or rusted up completely, any lubrication will make it easier to slide.
The problem is most of these products tend to get sticky when they dry out and attract dirt, dust and other stuff to clog up the bearings in the rollers and make the problem worse by wearing down your track.
They also get filthy (see photo below), and you can tramp that sticky mess inside on your carpet.

Best thing to use is silicone spray, or some other dry lubricant. It's also good on the felt strips on the side of the frame.
Try some out some silicone spray to see if it makes your ranch sliders or bi-fold doors slide better.
And while not wanting to sound like your mum, remember to vacuum the track every now and then, especially if you've got pets, whose hair and fur is like a magnet to door rollers.

Do you know that little plastic flap that always breaks on your window latches?
They're called wedges, and depending on what type of window latch you have, you might be able to replace the wedge instead of buying another whole latch.
They are not a great design to be honest, especially if you've got energetic kids or moody teenagers... (they are quite hard on doors as well, so quite good for our line of business : )

You see on the photo below, there are other ways to fix a broken wedge as well.
You can get the black stick-on wedges from Mitre 10 or Bunnings etc.
The other ones you can find online or get from me, as I usually carry a pretty good range of them.
Call Jim on 021 0688932 & I'll also sort out any other window or door problem you might have.
Have a good week.
