Pattern: Esther Sweater by PetiteKnit
Yarn: Purrino Fine DK 8ply shade 32 Blush
7 balls total (40g each) = 280g altogether
I used just 1 strand of Purrino throughout, with 4mm needles for the body and 3.5mm needles for the ribbing.
Finished size: 100cm bust and 58cm top-down length.
I’ve wanted to make this pattern for such a long time, but could never quite find the right yarn for it. I also really wanted to avoid holding 2 strands together so it would stay lighter, less chunky, and a bit more budget friendly too.
I absolutely love the Purrino blend (20% possum / 80% merino), although at first I thought it might be a bit too fine for this project. In the end I decided to just give it a go and knit a swatch first.
My gauge came out at 22 sts x 30 rows on 4mm needles, while the pattern gauge is 18 sts x 30 rows, so I knew the length would work out fine but the bust would come out a bit smaller. The pattern also includes around 25cm positive ease.
I measured one of my own sweaters and decided to knit the Small size, knowing it would finish closer to an XXS with less ease — which actually suits me perfectly.
It took about 2 months of evening knitting to finish, and I’m honestly so happy with how it turned out. It’s incredibly light but still super warm thanks to the possum fibre, and the whole sweater only weighs 280g! I especially love the soft fluffy halo the possum gives it.
One little note: when picking up stitches for the front and sleeves, I tried to line up the stitch lines (marked with the red line in the photo). This wasn’t mentioned in the pattern, and even the original sample doesn’t line them up, but personally I think it gives a cleaner look. Just my own preference 😊
Happy knitting everyone! You really can knit almost any jumper in the yarn you love — sometimes it just takes a swatch, a bit of maths, and giving it a go!
